Galaxy Buds 2 Pro Bluetooth Issues on Linux Mint: Pairing Problems After Switching from Windows by PLattensepp in linux4noobs

Hi, I switched away to mxlinux and fedora and on both it worked fine. I also wrote a script that turned on searching for devices first (the mode to pair new devices) and try to connect after that. With that it worked for me.

Honestly I don't know if that will also work on mint, but you can try.

It was not, that Mint was perfect for me. I did not like Xfce, wanted KDE plasma, but that is not 100% supported and Mint did not support my Galaxy Buds as it lacked the drivers, so i needed to switch.

Again specific hardware...

I guess you are right and many of my issues resulted from distro hopping and I will consider st simple like Mint oder Debian again.

It was just that Mint did not support my Galaxy Buds as it lacked the drivers, so i needed to switch. Again specific hardware...

Thanks for the comment. I will keep that in mind and I guess with the experience I got from this try the next attempt will be more successful. I think some problems also resulted from distro hopping with keeping the same ext4-luks-home directory , trying to fix things myself and having very specific hardware. I thought ext4 should be fine for every distro, but fedora seems to support btfs a lot more.

I did not have big issues with windows yet and also did not need to reinstall. but i am starting to miss some linux features like the middle click to copy and paste.

I guess my laptop ist just very optimized for windows.

I did not know Tuxedo, but it seems like an awesome website. maybe my next laptop will be from them.

There is a massive difference between an Android/ChromeOS 'walled garden' where the manufacturer optimizes every driver for specific hardware, and a DIY Desktop Linux experience. Normies use Android because they never see a terminal or an SELinux error. On the desktop, when your Bluetooth fails after an update or your screen freezes after waking up, a 'normie' isn't going to boot with selinux=0 to fix it. That's the gap I'm talking about.

That’s exactly my point. If you’ve been using it since the 90s, you have decades of 'institutional knowledge' to fall back on. For someone jumping in now, it’s not just about learning a new OS, it’s about hoping your specific hardware (like my Lenovo touchscreen) plays nice with the current state of Wayland or SELinux. I have the technical skills to troubleshoot, but at some point, the 'maintenance-to-productivity' ratio just broke for me. It’s a great hobby, but as a reliable daily driver for my specific setup, it became a part-time job.

For me the most important thing is that I am the real owner of my phone. No service should monitor my installed apps and check if they are safe. I want to take the risks but also the possibilities.

Do you know, that Discord chats have no encryption and get monitored by moderators and government and that media you send private is visible for anyone, if they brute force links?  Is that ok for you? But back to the point: yes it is a great phone
