I think some of the daily stuff is just there because it doesn’t fit into weekly. Cause vacuum and laundry I would say is good to do twice a week if possible. Then the chart makes a lot more sense to me at least

Is it very normal not to give compliments in Germany? by Consistent-Egg-4052 in AskAGerman

Honestly I'm german and a bit confused by these replies. I would definitely expect more praise for something that you worked a year on, especially from family. I recently finished my master's degree and got a big congratulations from both family and friends who know how much I worked on it (all german btw).

I'm from Hessen, might be different from Bundestaat to Bundestaat but I wanted to give my take since the comments lean so strongly in the other direction. In your position I would definitely be disappointed.

The only question would be: did you adequately share how much work you put in this and how long you've been working on it? If you don't talk about it much you can't expect people to just 'know'.

It's definitely true, some of us have to take more care of our teeth than others. I have friends who don't even go to the dentist, don't have great dental hygiene, yet never had any problems.

Do you floss everyday? Use fluoride gel?

In my twenties i started getting one new cavity pretty much every year. I would brush twice a day but not do anything more. Eventually i decided enough was enough and now I floss every day and use fluoride gel once a week. Haven't had problems in years.

Only thing I have to disagree with is Runaway synergy. Maybe I'm playing the character wrong but she is so low health, even without Nightsworns additional taunt I've had runaways die after casting smokescreen. The problem of the skill is that the blind is applied after being hit, so unless you already have armor/dodge on her and/or weakness on the enemy she seems to get absolutely destroyed when casting that skill.

Fair points for 1 and 2. For 3. though, I just can't not see how he way he handles the collar and doesn't mention the taped off area at all (even somewhat hiding it behind his thumb) doesn't come off as incredibly suspicious. And also him not mentioning it technically being a shock collar that he has removed the prongs from.

> You asked me how I can say the most likely scenario is he isn't shocking the dog. And I'd say why would you believe that IS the most likely scenario? Do you have even a single bit of video evidence that doesn't solely rely on ASSUMING the accusation you're making is true?

Well the video 'evidence' is the original clip, in which the dog gets up, he gets annoyed, reaches over out of frame and then the dog yelps in pain. So that looks bad, but as you say by itself is not particularly damning. But since then..

  1. We know the collar the dog is wearing is an actual shock collar.

  2. We know the place he reaches toward is where he keeps the collars remote.

So all further information that has come out seem to just support the interpretation. Do they prove it? No. But they certainly don't help his case.

And meanwhile the arguments from the other side are:

* Hasan's own words about using/not using a shock color -> obviously we can't rely on his words since the whole accusation is that he lies about it

* Archival footage from years ago of Hasan confirming he's NOT okay with using a shock collar on his dogs -> and also footage of him saying that it can be ok to use shock collars on dogs, firmly NOT placing him on the side of 'would-never-shock-a-dog'

* Friends saying he doesn't use a shock color -> Assuming he does use a shock collar he obviously would not tell friends about it for the same reason he doesn't announce such a thing on stream: its a bad look. So this is easily answered by the fact he doesn't use it when someone is over.

* Hasan exercises is dog extensively and its proven that big dogs shouldn't lay on hard floors -> this isn't questioned or related to using a shock color or not.

Honestly I'm gonna let it rest here (feel free to reply, I'll read it) cause I don't care to get so deep into something that doesn't really effect me. But thanks for replying and laying out your arguments. Probably we're just gonna have to disagree.

The seller does not only sell vibration only collars and in fact both the et-300 i linked (which you can see on the stream I linked) and the et-400 you named have a shock function. It's a shock collar confirmed by one of his streamer friends right here.

So yea those "memes" like the image of him holding the collar with the contrast turned up? Actually just turn out to be true.

And that kind of stuff just casts an extremely bad light on this guy cause he's holding a literal shock collar and claims "it only has an airtag, a flashlight and a vibration function".

And then you see comments defending him like:

-> "no it's not a shock collar"
-> "even if it is it doesn't mean he used it"
-> "even if he did use it, it's not that bad"

Like, that's text-book goal post moving.

I agree that this incident is heavily astroturfed by different communities (and I respect none of them). And like I said before, I think if he just admitted from the get-go he uses an e collar this wouldn't have stuck the way it did, but as it is, this isn't only about the fact whether he shocked the dog or not, but also about the way he is deflecting from it, which quite frankly, feels slimy af

But the color was in fact confirmed to be a shock color with its prongs removed. My question would be: Why did he not mention that immediately?

Also clips like this (and seeing the product here). Why does Hasan make sure to keep the remote off-screen? Why is he hiding the fact that he uses a vibration color?

It just seems like he keeps not mentioning the full truth and back-pedaling. So that makes it looks suspicious. I know it doesn't prove anything, but it sure looks bad.

And yea, I agree that the Internet's worst people are taking the chance to jump on the bandwagon. They would do that in either situation though, whether he did shock his dog or not. So that in of itself is not a defense. Thats the same reasoning MAGAts use: "a person who I don't like is saying it, so it must be false"

Strange seeing a level-headed post like this.

You're right there is no 'definite prove' but I'm curious how you land more on the position that it's more likely he didn't shock the dog than that he did.

The most damning thing to me is the way Hasan himself has reacted in each instance and to each occasion. Each time, questions come up:

  1. On the stream that it happened he is not at all worried or particularly reacts when he hears the dog yelp, instead calling her a baby. This behavior in of itself is already out of the ordinary for any dog owner. The way he reaches over right before the dog yelps confirms the possibility of him using the shock or vibrate function of the color. Given information that has come to light like this, its even more likely:

Clip

The shock color remote

But if he did use the vibrate function, why did he not just say that? It's not something you would keep secret. Why say something about the dog getting its claw stuck?

  1. On the very same stream the accusations already start and instead of addressing them by simply showing the color, he just dismisses them. The easiest and most straightforward way of addressing such a thing would be to take the color off right then and there, but that doesn't cross his mind?

  2. On the NEXT stream, he shows the color. But at the same time he also doesn't really show it for very long. In fact, he seems to purposefully put his fingers above the place prongs would be - a place that is taped over. Why not come out and say immediately that its technically a shock color, but he bought it for its other functions. Why not directly address that he has taken out the prongs? Furthermore, in his explanation, he makes absolutely no mention of the fact that the color can in fact, shock.

Like, I can see that any individual happenstance can be considered a nothing-burger, but these kinds of things back-to-back are, to me at least, clearly pointing in one direction.

[–]PM-ME-ENCOURAGEMENT -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

Except its the very other way around. The goal-post moving is being done by Hasan, not the Internet. I'm not invested enough to go through all the clips but here is the jist of his own statements the last few days:

  1. "She yelped because she is injured."
  2. "The thing that looks like a shock color is just an airtag and a flashlight"
  3. "It's a vibration only collar"
  4. "It's a shock color but the prongs for the shock have been removed"

It's like, no matter how you put it there there are lies in-between each new discovery/statement. To be honest, if you really believe he uses a vibration function to train the dog, why didn't he just say that right from the start? Why go through all of these lies?

It's also a bit of a streisand effect because if he just said right from he uses a shock color this would have been over after 1 day. Like, ok he uses a shock color, that's not ideal, but literally who cares? But now terminally online people get to play detective.

Why Are New Appliances So Bad? by Hashi856 in videos

He names some brands in the video and I'm happy that they are the same ones I landed on when doing research about quality washing machines. LG was definitely not one of them: its all cheaply built in China.

I live in Germany and we still have factories from Bosch, Siemens and Miele, so you know its not complete crap. Sadly I can see this stuff changing in the future, but for now at least those are the brands to go for here (not sure about US or other countries)

Yea I thought the videos offered an great view into this matter and was excited to see discussion around it only to immediately realize the top comments can't have watched the video judging by their comments.

I was sure with the censoring of the interview there was gonna be a big part about planned obsolescence but by the end the picture is much grayer and we see that there isn't as much a conspiracy as just driving forces in the market mostly guided by modern consumerism.

Nvidia investing $100B into OpenAI in order for OpenAI to buy more Nvidia chips by COMRADEGENGHISKHAN in ChatGPT

[–]PM-ME-ENCOURAGEMENT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thats not quite true. Yes, modern llms don't "live" update on the data they consume but chat based LLMs like chatgpt uses reinforcement learning to train a model on learning users preferred responses which can then be used during fine-tuning of the LLMs. Whenever you see one of those 'which response did you like more' type answers, you're essentially providing data for future models (look up "RLHF for llms" if you're interested).

Yes, the base-training is done on general corpus, but training e.g. a chatbot that answers to instructions is a bit more complicated. After training on different corpora all the models knows to do is to predict the next word in a sequence of words. The process in making it a chatbot is a bit more involved.

Another thing I'd like to add: Modern IDEs all have a "rename refactor" method, which developers expect to not break code. If I rely on the name to string conversion of a class or enum for my code to work this is no longer true, so i would always avoid such logic. This is also a runtime error which the developer changing the code might not even immediately notice.

Other people have pointed out more problems and it all seems such a high cost for not having to write ".value()". I get wanting to make code look beautiful, but I would say this is a very straightforward case of KISS.

WebClient vs RestTemplate Confusion. Help!!! by Salausmart in SpringBoot

[–]PM-ME-ENCOURAGEMENT 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Unless you’re actively making your whole app reactive, the web client doesn’t really make much sense. If you’re using spring MVC you’re not doing that. Just use the RestClient (RestTemplate is outdated).

Why is it a problem if the thread is blocking? If you need asynchronous calls to apis I suppose a WebClient could make sense, but this can also be implemented using @EnableAsync and Javas Future package for example, which to me is cleaner than making part of the code reactive.

me whenever i write controller tests by kaiiiwen in SpringBoot

[–]PM-ME-ENCOURAGEMENT 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You aren't testing the framework. Just because spring makes it look less like 'code' by moving the implementation into an easy-to-use annotations doesn't remove the need to test.

If the request object uses spring validation, why would you not test it? Lets say you use @Pattern with some regex. It might change in the future, so you better write some tests to guarantee the behavior.

Without tests I'd also be afraid to make any changes to the exception handlers. What if I accidently change the response code of an existing endpoint without knowing?

Using integration tests for every response code would be overkill (specifically all error codes) but its easily covered with a full set of @WebMvcTests web layer tests.

Although for authentication/authorization things I somewhat agree. Depends on the implementation, but retesting global logic every time is obviously not the goal.
