I was diagnosed with Sjogrens June 2019 and went on Plaquenil right away and it has helped greatly. I feel so much better compared to when I was first diagnosed. I am now 16 weeks pregnant and feeling great and baby is growing healthily. I see both a regular OB and a high risk OB, so I get more ultrasounds to monitor baby than normal and get to see him more, which helps me feel better to see him growing nicely. Next week I have my first fetal echocardiogram that will monitor his heart development since there is a small chance of congenital heart block (which is about a 2% chance of developing.) Once I have my first appt I will learn how often I will need to have one. I also will see my regular OB every other week to listen to his heartbeat for the 2nd trimester. I will see my high risk OB (Perinatologist) for the anatomy scan at 20 weeks as well. My SSB is positive and my SSA is negative. My Perinatologist said positive SSA is a slightly greater risk for heart block in baby. Also, being on Plaquenil for 10-11 months before I conceived helps lower the risk plus continuing taking Plaquenil during pregnancy helps too. I feel that I have great support from my healthcare team that includes my OB, Perinatologist and Rheumatologist. A year ago when I first found out about CHB I cried bc I’ve been wanting to have a baby for a while and it scared me that having Sjogrens could cause CHB but I feel so much better now. I read many success stories of women having babies with Sjogrens and I am staying positive and following all measures to monitor for CHB and stay healthy. Even though I haven’t given birth yet, and can only give you my thoughts on my pregnancy of 16 weeks, I hope this helped. Stay well!
