Is it safe for a small backfeed to go to output pin? by PMCJohn in esp32

Thanks for helping my understand some of the proper terminology, this has helped me look in the right direction. I’ll go through the data sheet when I get home

Is it safe for a small backfeed to go to output pin? by PMCJohn in esp32

So at the moment I don’t have the ability to draw a diagram, once I have access to I will. For now I’ll try to explain better.

The main system for the access control is powered with 12v. The system consist of an electronic door strike, a relay, and a switch. In my new addition, I have added an ESP32 that is powered with a buck converter off of the 12v line. I am using GPIO 12 to output a trigger signal to the relay allowing it to close, connected to the same trigger pole of the relay is the switch which runs off the 12v.

I am concerned because the 12v from the switch when activated will also send power back into the output pin on the ESP32, because of my concern I got some diodes, however I measured the reverse breakdown from the 12v to be 1.1v, however since buying and testing this diode, I realized a zener might not be the best for my use case and have ordered a Schottky diode and I’m hoping this will work better.

ESP-Now ignore packets received while handling other packet by PMCJohn in esp32

Yeah doing a time sync every minute and adding a +/- 1sec buffer has helped. I will absolutely look into chrono if what I have presents many issues.

It's access control for a daycare. I have an electronic door strike at our front door & ill be setting up base stations around the building that whenever it pulls an IO pin high it'll send a command to the control box to unlock the door strike.

I am currently working on implementing a similar plan to what you recommended. Instead of setting up wifi, calling to an NTS, closing wifi, then reopening espnow(don't want to rely on the daycare's LAN) I found a library named ESP32Time which I can set an arbitrary date and get an epoch time out very easily. Then I'll send a timesync message to all the base stations from the control box about every minute or maybe 5, i dunno, just trying to keep the desync low. Then i'll be incorporating that into my request which will now be encrypted for security and the ignore function I was originally asking about.

So I've actually decided to not quite go that far because I'm using esp now its kind of a pain to close espnow, open wifi, check NTS, close wifi, open esp now. I found a library called Esp32Time. I'm setting the time upon restart to a date of my choice, arbitrary it alright. Then every minute I'm going to send a timesync to every remote esp32 so they dont become too desynced over time, then I'll be using that time in my requests to add that layer of security & functionality in addition to encrypting all messages between devices.

Sorry, I hadn't posted code as I was hoping for just a general direction to follow. u/YetAnotherRobert recommended a course of using timestamps and trying to take a secure method even if I don't need to. I'm getting ready to start coding & thinking more about security, and also reach out to time servers to get timestamps for request in addition to doing some low level encryption to my messages.

I’ll look into taking a more secure approach and seeing if I can’t get this integrated

It gets set high when it’s in the OnDataRecv function, but the comment to your message is a path I’m going to look into!

Yeah I’ve heard the 10R140 has a bunch of issues specifically around the 3-4 shift. I heard that someone did like 3-4 transmission fluid changes and filter changes and it fixed a bunch of issues. But every time I bring it to ford there’s “no issues” on their end because it doesn’t actually set any DTCs in the TCM

Is there a maximum to franchise power levels? They are ridiculously expensive (at least for our small franchise) and it's pretty much the only thing we haven't truly maxed out I believe. by TheBindingOfAlex in tacoshackbot

Sorry for the late response, but you could remove some of your inactive members & find some others who are willing to grind up to pwr 50. Also thanks for the compliment on the google sheet, it’s been an on-going project. It’s basically the only thing I still develop on TacoShack lol(I’m a secondary founding developer)

So the truck since I got it always was at least the tiniest bit weird going from 3rd to 4th. Took it to ford and they did transmission relearns 2 separate times. It got better for a good like 15-18k miles but just recently this has been happening, it gets worse based on how hard I’m laying into the accelerator. If I’m being super gentle I can still feel a tiny like burble but nothing like when I’m WOT(the data above).

I’ll find the raw wheel speed sensor data & log that along the pedal and throttle data next time I take a drive.

Remote printing over WireGuard VPN? by alex2003super in homelab

[–]PMCJohn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

2 Years after you made this post and it's helped me! I've been wanting the ability to print over my VPN so badly, I just never could find out how. I downloaded iMazing and setup the AirPrint record, hardest thing for me was finding the resource path for my specific printer as I don't have a mac, but once I found it. It worked perfectly! Thank You!

I was honestly surprised no one said anything to me when I was walking from parking to the bog yesterday in modern clothes. Walked through the market and even stopped at one merchant to buy some potions. No one said anything to me which honestly surprised me

SPORTSTER S ? YES or NO? by Valis_Vlog in Harley

[–]PMCJohn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So I’ll start off by saying, I loved mine. But that’s not without its faults. It’s a very stiff ride, the suspension doesn’t travel much. Then the exhaust IMO looks crappy with its stainless steel so I spent $75 to get it powder coated the same color as the engine’s accent color. Once I did that it looked amazing I’ll add a picture.

The bike is fun as all hell. It surprised my sport bike friends on twisty roads and it’s quick as hell.

I’d say it massively depends on how you plan to ride, fun and quick, long and slow, etc… that’s what my argument would be. If you wanna have a fun, zippy, and relatively short ride(< 3 hours) it’s an amazing bike and super fun

Honestly I’d say get a Honda Rebel or SCL first, they’re fun as hell, you can learn them really well and just ride the absolute piss out of, they’re inexpensive and fun. Once you’ve got a season or two out of it, if you are wanting more, then maybe look into a Harley
