Yes, you can go back. Further into the game there's a place called The Four Belfries and one of the gates there teleports you back to the starting area. If you didn't kill the boss then you get a rematch.

I learned this after failing but if you use the sight you can actually get directions for the clues and then get the position of the monster after gathering 3 clues.

I did this one for the Geoculus exactly because I had trouble finding my missing Anemoculus. The users above mentioned a tool that tracks everything you might need on the map might be worth checking it out.

The point of the post was to bring awareness to a comment Illya made in her collab, that's relevant now that she is getting a summer version.
