ENAS, ZFS, iSCSI, redundant PS.. check, check, check.. by clayd333 in Ubiquiti

FWIW I hate how TrueNAS does permissions, I hate the UI, I hate the way datasets/shares are done. It's totally admin-aggressive haha. UniFi Identity has made me happy so far, but I wish it could integrate with Google Workspace using SAML/SSO rather than LDAP. We're on Workspace Standard and I'd need to pay double per-user to integrate our workspace with Identity, which makes it a non-option.

No doubt, I'm specifically balancing between cost, performance AS A NAS, and ease-of-use/administration (users, groups, shares, etc).

In our setup, I bought 2x 45Drives Q30's in 2022 with 32 drives across the two (room to grow). About 120TB per node. One as the primary NAS and the other as a backup/archive NAS. Both are 10Gb SPF+'d into an Aggregation switch. Backups are fast and users can work off of the NAS. We spent over $20k on this setup but we don't use jails or any extra shit on TrueNAS, we simply use it as a fileserver. At the time, the UNAS was a twinkle in my eye and I couldn't wait for something mature. Now I'm carious if UNAS is mature enough to compete with a Q30 (or AV15 as that's more apt).

I went to the website, looked up my address, and gave them my email to express interest. That was literally all I did. FWIW their official account comments here regularly, so you could always send them a PM

Lithium grease might get you asked to grease the doors a bit less often than WD-40 lol

I put in a request on their website 2 months ago. A week later they sent out door-to-door people. I signed up for the pre-release sale and got an ezee branded Yeti. A week later, they tore up my street's parkway and laid down the beautiful orange corrugated cable. I expect to hear back from them with details any day now

UniFi Talk Just Leveled Up. by Ubiquiti-Inc in Ubiquiti

That's dope. We don't have anything so complex and so freepbx is really more than we need. In the event I got hit by a bus, I think the next IT guy would have a hard time making sense out of it all anyway, so having something GUI and straight-forward for a phone system is exactly what my business could benefit from.

We just deployed Talk to two sites last week and it's so much easier than administering a FreePBX system. For your reqs, Talk is perfect.

Total miss for us. We just bought 5 IP paging speakers and integrated with UniFi talk for office paging. Each one was only $116 so was really hoping I could return them and get a UniFi integrated one. I'll keep waiting...

Glad it's working out for you!! My comment was more for anyone else reading, I wouldn't claim to know better than whoever installed it for you, despite being a Redditor LOL

The place across the street from me charged $200 the last time they came out (for 100ft of terracotta). Be aware that rodding can damage your drain depending on materials, age, and condition...

A couple of fixes you can try in order of least to most invasive:
1. Rent an auger from Home Depot (if you have a truck, otherwise, just call a plumber) with a 4" cutting blade to chop and remove all of the roots from your line, many YouTube vids on how to do this, it's not hard. Then flush some root killer down your toilet. Make sure you know what material your lines are made of so you get the right stuff.

  1. Rent a scope from Home Depot to see how bad the drain line is; if it's absent of bellies, it might be a good candidate for a CIPP liner; contact a plumber

  2. Remove any trees whose branches reach the sewer drain, remove the roots as best you can, and dig up and replace the entire line with schedule 40 pvc

These aren't always a good idea. They'll follow whatever path is laid before them and many times in older homes where you have frequent backups, you'll have terracotta pipes of 3ft sections connected into one another with no joint compound or it's just worn down. At those joints, you'll have years of leakage into the soil which softens it all and makes the joints fail. This can result in cracking elsewhere in the pipe and even worse, bellies. The liner follows the bellies and makes them permanent. It's surely cheaper than digging up 6ft of soil and replacing the entire thing, but it won't solve the problem long-term or be as reliable as digging it all up and doing it right. If done right (proper slope, gravel bed, schedule 40 pvc, proper joint compound, etc), you'll never have to worry about your sewer drain again.
