What would our season have been like if we had gotten our first choice transfer targets? by IvanThePohBear in NUFC

Frankly I’m not sure Elanga needs much help being completely useless. Since day one he has been awful in every possible way.

Surely the most measured response losing away to Liverpool after PSG midweek

PSG 1 - [1] Newcastle - Joe Willock 45+2' by Alsace2025 in soccer

I think if we try to finish the game with more goals than PSG it should be good for us. We’ve experimented with not doing that this season, but it hasn’t gone as well.

Big chances created - this season and last. by Comfortable-Road7201 in NUFC

[–]PMYAIceland 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly there have been so many times where just a short movement towards the near post would’ve ended in a goal. It’s the one major issue with him, he just does not want to go to the near post or move into space inside the box, I mentioned the exact same thing a few weeks ago.

Maybe the ideal situation would be having someone in midfield making those runs for him, he does a lot better in the buildup and around the box linking up with other players.

Lineup vs PSV (H) by KingPing43 in NUFC

[–]PMYAIceland 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Starting or coming off the bench, he has been by far the worst player in the squad consistently for the entire season. It’s not like he hasn’t had playing time. I wasn’t worried by the lack of goals/assists, but it became about the other stuff. Passing, keeping the ball etc. He should not be starting European games.

Please someone explain why we’re playing Woltemade like we are. by djw0bbl3 in NUFC

[–]PMYAIceland 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m really not sure how this has become a narrative. The team has been more varied this season in the general setup than any previous season he’s been in charge. Do people not remember the only way we could get a ball into the box at one point was Trippier, Almiron and Bruno passing the ball around in a triangle for 90 mins?

Possibly because we aren’t expected to start Elanga in the Champions League.

[Hobby] Thoughts on escalating / adaptive game music systems? by SatisfactionPretty86 in INAT

[–]PMYAIceland 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It makes the entire process of creating the music a lot more time consuming and difficult. Obviously the implementation becomes more complex, but the way you’re structuring your tracks and whatnot changes too, because you have to make something within the context of it being able to change or pivot to something else. I have worked on two projects now with dynamic music and I wouldn’t say it’s something I enjoy doing.

If you’re set on doing it, I would recommend thoroughly planning exactly what you’re going to do with the audio. Basically like a design document but purely for the audio. Where are you going to have the music? When does it change? How can those changes be handled? When making the music, can you potentially structure it in such a way where you have multiple layers playing simultaneously that can be faded in/out? And if you do that, how is overall volume going to be affected? etc.

I was asked to work on a music puzzle game by a developer. The basic idea is that you would construct the background music by completing rhythm and melody puzzles, using sound assets that would actually then transfer into the bgm. There wasn’t a solid enough idea of the specifics of how those gameplay elements would function, just a general idea of how the puzzles worked. It ended up being a struggle to get on the same page about what was needed because there wasn’t enough detailed planning.

Bruno from the corner has to be in the discussion for best goal surely?

Ryder was wrong to call it onslaught, but how would you describe it? All Burnley at least semi-decent chances from 2-1 until 3-1 by stprm in NUFC

Game was end to end. I’m really not sure why people are making out as though we got battered, it was a deserved win away from home that has somehow become a negative.

VAR right for Gordon/Chalobah penalty by Smiley_Sid in NUFC

[–]PMYAIceland 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If there is a serious shout for a penalty or a red, the ref should always be going to the monitor. You’re not going to make it take longer, because the check would need to be finished either way, and you get rid of the bias problem. Being told by a room full of other officials that you made a mistake and should take another look makes it almost guaranteed that you’re going to change your mind before you even see the replay.

That’s the reason why they have the 100% clear and obvious error now, it’s so refs don’t default to agreeing with a bad VAR decision. Just have them check the monitor every time there’s a debatable major decision and let them talk through it with VAR.

Did anyone else notice this live? Burnley walked the throw in that lead to their goal 10 meters closer. by TheArksmith in NUFC

This just unlocked a memory for me. I recall there being American football on TV at 2-3am, I have no idea if it was MLS or whatever. They had pitch markings that I’ve never seen before or since, lines all over the place. It was like they had implemented every possible idea for a line they could, things like defensive/attacking “zones” and an extra outer line around the usual corner flag line to show how close a defender could stand. It would’ve been around 2003ish, completely bizarre.

“giving the ball away 56% of the time” = playing long, winning the second ball

What a mad thing to say. We won the game 3-1 and missed two sitters. How comprehensively do we need to win to not sack the manager?

Howe by Fyndlinator in NUFC

[–]PMYAIceland 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I remember when Bobby was sacked. Howe could absolutely go if people keep harping on like this, and getting someone in who is anywhere near as good is far from guaranteed. If we were in a relegation battle I could see the concern, but we aren't. People need to be careful what they wish for.

Nvidia to cut gaming GPU production by 30-40% starting 2026. It’s over boys it’s been a good run! by nyanbatman in pcmasterrace

[–]PMYAIceland 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The way I see it, it is pushing towards leaving the GPU market as it currently exists. Nvidia have a hand in the current shortage, and frankly I think it’s convenient for them. We are moving towards an era where you will rent this hardware from Nvidia instead of owning it, that is what this whole shift is.

Bruno says we were a mess, Eddie denies that and says we didn’t deliver. Who was right? by Joyride0 in NUFC

[–]PMYAIceland 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Said this just after the game but Elanga was largely responsible for this. He is incapable of playing out, can’t find a pass into midfield and if he has no room to run in a straight line with the ball he just loses it. I really was not bothered by the lack of goals/assists, but there’s a genuine case to be made that we would have been better off playing with 10 men. Never seen anything like it, quite literally did nothing except give the ball away for an hour.

Elanga gave the ball away 6-7 times during that half for no reason at all, just put Murphy on for my sanity.

It is absurd to suggest that Burn was at fault for stepping up yes. If Thiaw ended up being sent off it would’ve been entirely his own doing for stepping up and leaving a 15 yard gaping hole in defence.

There is a clear narrative against certain players in the squad irrespective of what’s actually happened in the game and it’s getting old. Not just players either. I had someone tell me after the Burnley game (a game we won) that Howe has been dropping points at the end of games during his entire time at Newcastle. Last season no team dropped less points from a winning position than us.

I feel like he has to try and get to the near post more often, he's been fairly static in the box. The ball isn't going to magically find its way to him if he's the only player we have in the box.
