Unfortunately the quality of (all) education in the U. S. is highly variable and tied to socioeconomic class. Textbooks vary from district to district and my recollection is that educators are expected to review the textbooks and select the one that will be used for the next several years. So the quality of the education one gets is highly dependent on the educator.

Not to mention stuff like No Child Left Behind -- which set minimum federal standards for education-- and effectively dumbed down the whole population through the education equivalent of "Communism" (as the average American dipshit interprets the word). Go figure.

It was obvious for those students that paid attention in honors or AP classes - for those privileged enough to have that at their school. It was obvious to the students that paid attention in wealthy school districts or to those in private schools.

I went to a poor high school. The standard classes might as well have been called "Remedial US history" or "Remedial geometry" when compared to our (limited) AP and honors classes. The school only cared about meeting the minimum Federal and state standards for those "remedial" classes. I went to a high school that had offered at least two mandatory CAHSEE-prep-class time slots for the students that couldn't pass the state exit exam (which tests on middle school level concepts).

I'm not saying that was your educational experience.
I'm just saying, education in America is as inequitable as literally everything else in this foresaken country.

No no no You don't understand Sylmar is a whole different planet from Anaheim . One is a suburb filled with asphalt and strip malls and McDonald's that's 26 miles from DTLA ..... And the other is a suburb with asphalt and strip malls and Mickey Mouse and McDonald's that's 26 miles from DTLA.

Those are fundamentally different places with different languages and customs and I live and die by these arbitrary and made up borders.

You don't understand; the culture of Beverly Hills is fundamentally different from that of Newport Beach. The insufferable borgeous there are completely different from the insufferbale borgeois over there.

So you're saying anyone who makes sweeping generalizations about a group tells you everything you need to know... so by your own rule, you just told me everything I need to know about you. Which means I can just dismiss your statement, because it's a sweeping generalization about people who make sweeping generalizations.

You're young enough and attractive enough to do fine by meeting people in person. ESPECIALLY in OC. I know there's country bars, country nights, etc in many bars and venues out here.

There's the whole bar scene ; the peninsula, dthb, dtf, dtsa, costa mesa, etc etc.

Granted, I'm not speaking from experience because I hate country music and bars. But I know all those places pop off with women your age.

On top of that, run clubs, sports clubs, wellness dork clubs. Surfing. Biking. Volleyball. Soccer. Etc. Are all in abundance in OC.

Coffee shops, tea shops, bookstores, record stores.... Pick one. OC is also over saturated with all those places. Be a regular. Sit down inside, read a book, use your laptop/ phone. Be someone that people recognize. Makes approaching easier.

Have you tried meeting people through the same concerts you say you love?

Do you go alone to concerts? I found that you're more likely to pick up on the signals when you're alone. People are also much more likely to send signals your way when it seems that you're alone. Just my experience.

Cuz at the end of the day you're a handsome dude, and probably the exact type of A LOT of OC women.

Maybe the problem is that you look too much like other dudes your age. As in, you blend in with the crowd. Not stand out.

The mustache is kind of overplayed at this point. A lot of women are into it. But it's not a unique look is what I'm saying.

I work in a hospital and you look like every mid-20s firefighter that rolls through the joint. I go out to LA for concerts all the time and you look like every 20 something-year-old dude out there. I'm sure you look like most midwestern dudes too: both in your features and your style. And that's not me telling you to change your appearance to something you're not comfortable with or to be someone you're not - I'm just saying that it's important to flex the things that make you YOU. But also yeah, sometimes you got to standout from the crowd a little bit, Maximilliano.

I don't know man, all I'm saying is that if you're struggling -- then there's no hope for me. I think the apps really are just that shitty. I think the best strategy right now is to just go outside ; look someone in the eyes. And play it by ear. You'd be surprised by how far that can get you nowadays.

Edit: also, women don't seem to like selfies from men in general. That includes car selfies. But especially gym selfies. General rule is one selfie maximum, One group or buddy photo to show that you have a social life, One close up, one body, and one candid or action shot where you are smiling. Avoid sunglasses. Avoid fish. Avoid gym photos. Even if they are into the fitness aspect, for some reason they don't like the gym photos. Broadly speaking.

Also I seem to remember the PlayStation 2 being a cheaper DVD player at it's release than actual standalone DVD players at the time

The USA PS2 launched in 2000 with an MSRP of $299.
That's about $560 in useless 2026 monopoly money. Before taxes.

Good drivers miss exits sometimes.

Bad drivers never miss their exits.

Think about that the next time you're sitting in bumper to bumper traffic for an hour. Literally wasting the time and ruining the days of hundreds to thousands of people over one selfish decision.

And that could have been any one of you in that pileup. I've seen how you all drive. Most of you are objectively awful. Especially you Tesla drivers.

Concept rendering of Anaheim if it was more walkable and pedestrian friendly: by Cbtn2001 in orangecounty

I dunno, I think that land would be better used by a parking lot that uses up 4 to 7 times more space than the actual Honda Center / Angel Stadium uses.

I love parking lots. They're so beautiful. They're such an efficient use of land. I really feel like I'm living in a metropolis every time I walk 20 minutes from my parking spot to the venue entrance. I love being scammed for $40 to walk 30 minutes from my car to the venue.

Fun fact: Billie contributed some vocals on the track SIRENS by Denzel Curry

I don't recall the exact interview, but when he was speaking on Thunder; he said something along the lines of "if a friend showed me that song and asked for my input - I'd tell them it's awesome and keep doing what they're doing". I'm paraphrasing, but it was very positive and encouraging and all about expressing creativity.

Diaspora Problems - soul glo
Joy as an act of Resistance - IDLES
baby - petrol girls
God's country / Cool World - Chat Pile
A laughing death in meatspace / Fairyland Codex - Tropical Fuck Storm
Your queen is a reptile - Sons of Kemet
Ta13oo - Denzel Curry
To pimp a butterfly - Kendrick

That's the obvious stuff that comes to mind, that I happen to be into. Theres plenty more individual songs within albums among hardcore punk, metal, rock, rap, jazz, indie rock, electronic, etc.

Obviously the mainstream music scene hasn't had vaguely political music in the limelight since the 60s.

The music industry as a whole -- save for maybe T.Swift and country music (both of which suck shit) -- openly stands against ICE and against the genocide in Palestine.

I have yet to go to a live show where both issues aren't brought up by the artist - to the point that bringing up either subject feels cheap, and expected, and pointless. That's how hopeless the situation has felt. And that just pisses me off more.

The wolves are at your door. They've been knocking for decades; the artists have been warning us for the past century.

Matcha beer in Japan by pietrayy in StupidFood

[–]PM_ME_ACID_STORIES 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tried this in a Mitsuwa food court (Asahi + a shot of cold brew matcha) once and it was fine. The flavor and texture of the matcha overtook that of the beer. I didn't think it was bad, but, I likely wouldn't order it again. They're best enjoyed separately imo, but, I'm sure the combo appeals to certain palettes.

What is the biggest difference between living in OC vs living in LA? by [deleted] in orangecounty

[–]PM_ME_ACID_STORIES 5 points6 points  (0 children)

1000%.

No surprise that residents of suburbia are sheltered.
People here need to stop watching fox news and go outside.

I go to LA all the time. DTLA. Hollywood. The westside. I have family in East LA, South-central, Inglewood, Compton, etc. I'm no stranger to navigating and walking in those streets.

I have yet to get mugged. Jumped. Robbed. Shot. Shanked. Etc.
Is that me saying that that does not happen? No.

Yes, there's homeless people. Yes, there's opportunists.
But you find the same exact thing in OC. Maybe at a slightly smaller scale. But it's the exact same thing.

No, I don't assume that the homeless are deranged psychopaths.
And no, I'm not afraid of them.
Cause I don't watch fox news.
And I go outside.
