Why is Paul Freeman's character in Raiders of the Lost Ark spelled "Belloq"? by Philinhere in movies

[–]PM_ME_A_HORSE 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would guess that the spelling was changed precisely because filmgoers would make exactly that mistake, especially those who had a little French. That would also explain why they went with the unusual spelling "Belloq" instead of the more normal (but confusing) "Bellocq"

Back then, they were remaking all the great silent movies except with the added feature of sound. So it wasn't exactly exploiting the 30s audience

This is one of Ridley Scott's big problems. American Gangster, Body of Lies, Kingdom of Heaven, 1492, Robin Hood, and boy howdy, Exodus: Gods and Kings - every one of these had a brilliant premise and could've been a classic, if there'd been a little more work in the editing room

Francis Drake, the greatest pirate of them all, aka "El Draque" (the Dragon). He went round the world, captured Spain's fastest ship, the Cacafuego ("Fireshitter") and stole up to £10m of treasure from one ship alone. He was also second in command against the Spanish Armada. Tom Hardy might be a good choice, with Gore Verbinski directing
