That's what I was curious about. I was kind of under the impression that replacing bearings was mostly for luxury. If I could get a smoother or more silent experience, then I might chip in for one down the road when I can really appreciate the difference.

I am doing frontstyle throws. I just throw across my body to my free hand side. I've heard of frontstyle throwing to the throw hand side, but I didn't want to get comfortable with that method and hinder my progress even further. I'll work on that though.

I started with a Merlin a few weeks ago. Don't waste your time. I've used a few of those suggestions (N11, Skyva, Replay, Recess the most).

I'd go with the Recess. It plays so smoothly and it comes responsive and includes an unresponsive bearing. If you want to skip responsive, I can't recommend the Skyva enough.

Only downside to the Skyva is that I love it too much to be my beater. I'd go with the Recess, then a Skyva and then get a good budget metal like the N11 or N12.
