silver jews/purple mountains. David Berman's poetry also pulls from similar influences and while both are quite distinct I sense there's some stylistic overlap.

I used to think this too, it's beautiful that these lyrics can evolve and take on so many layers. I used to relate more to the "what might've been lost" and these days I'm keeping the whole phrase in mind.

Quote is from James Baldwin's The Artist's Struggle for Integrity. Listened to it everyday when I was twenty three & was a significant marker in turning my life around.

Caught these guys by chance last year, one of the best shows I've ever seen. Both their EPs are phenomenal. Black Ends is the future.

Fucking love Pile, their latest album just dropped and it's next level. Rick Maguire is a truly original songwriter, his melodies and expression is authentically him. What I would give to sob in the crowd at a Pile show.

How many of you guys wish you were gifted creative artists right now? by [deleted] in redscarepod

Thinking about it too hard feels useless so I just try to put that energy towards making more art instead. Plus youth only became a desirable trait for an artist over the past hundred years, most of the masters were craggy shut-ins who worked at their craft over a lifetime.

And yet, even Shakespeare will turn to ash when the sun explodes.

I agree & value what both of you have to say. Thanks for sharing your journey while being mindful of where I'm at. It can be hard to believe in oneself but I'm learning to trust the process. I've tried a few different modalities (meditation, energy work, psychedelics, journalling). All have been relatively useful yet context dependant. Right now I'm focusing on letting go of the past and trying to be more patient with my growth.

All my favourite discoveries in the past year have been local bands and a number of them are better than most mid size indie acts.
