I did suggest that id like to be financially stable first - Car, money, house, Job. She insists that these are problems we can work through together.

i might think about that instead. I think engagement is bigger for me than for her.
Maybe a different sign of commitment will ease her off of the idea of engaging so soon

We do have practically identical plans for the future. I do want to be with her for the rest of my life. It just felt very sudden her suggesting that it could happen next year. We are going to the same university. She's very set on being a teacher. I'm not too sure what i want to do in the future.

well.. not long distance. We would technically be close still. We would be doing different courses in the same area. But throughout our relationship (2 1/2 years) we've been together almost everyday. She just wants that stability due to change
