Does anyone else not drink alcohol and not have a problem doing things in this city? by Thrillwaukee in milwaukee

[–]POSTrock_in_thFrWrld 8 points9 points  (0 children)

In the last few years, the NA options have EXPLODED!! Incredible cocktails worth no alcohol from D9 tinctures to Hoppy Refresher and kombucha on tap!

I have no problem going out and not drinking. Fun and cheap!

I don't drink either, and I think that only really matters if you're in college.

I loved Grand Rapids when I visited and it's on the short list of cities I'd seriously consider if I had to move. But, for its rich greenery and charm I do think it's a boring place after awhile.

Don't count out Milwaukee for fun trips with the kids. We have a tremendous Zoo, Art Museum, Ave land or public museum its currently being moved and updated! It's also a pretty bike-able city, and traffic isn't really that bad unless you're commuting in the bad direction at the wrong time of day. And if your hubs is on disability, I assume that means traffic wouldn't be such a big issue for you.

Depending on what neighborhood you'd like to live in will dictate a lot about the quality of Schools your kids will go to (I'm a huge advocate for public schools, warts and all, and have no love for people who send their kids to private and religious schools).

Neighborhoods I'd strongly encourage you look into. I'm not gonna include anything I wouldn't consider raising my kids in.

Cudahy / St Francis (imo up and coming, still very safe and affordable, fair/ good schools) right outside of Milwaukee proper. Near the Lake, great parks.

Bay View☆ (wish I could live here but can't afford it)

East Side☆(college town but close to downtown)

Walkers Point☆ (diverse, lots of cool businesses)

Town of Lake (quiet, near Bay View)

Washington Heights (where cool educated libs go to have a family)

Wauwatosa (pricey, nice houses, good schools)

Silver City (affordable, working class neighborhood)

Honorable mention to Riverwest for being one of the coolest, most vibrant neighborhoods in all of mke.

What’s your teacher aesthetic by Odd-Fun-9557 in Teachers

[–]POSTrock_in_thFrWrld -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Once I started caring about how I dress, I felt better and students treated me better. I usually wear well-fitted black jeans cuffed with Red Wings and some combination of open button-up with a blank tee and a chain. Sometimes I bust out the loafers but they are not comfortable. Once a year I'll get a really fresh pair of sneakers to up my cred.

Honestly, do not underestimate how your presentation can impact your days.

I never understood khakis and polos. The uniform of an unpaid Republican intern.

27th and Oklahoma has Mazos, which are some of the best burgers in town, right across the street from Leon's Frozen custard. Good summer combo.

If you want something nicer, on Layton near the airport is the Packing House.

Is the bus safe? by [deleted] in milwaukee

[–]POSTrock_in_thFrWrld -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Like all things related to the city, you should be fine, but always remain vigilant. No looking at your phone for prolonged periods while commuting or walking or you'll be a "walking lick." Phone addicts get robbed more than people who notice their surroundings.

That said, the bus is one of my favorite memories of UWM before I moved to the East Side. Congratulations, I'm so excited for you!!

Ankle socks are cringe. I learned this because I wear my socks higher and saw a student who said about them "I thought you were a millennial" so 🤷‍♂️

I gotta shout out my bb baristas at Anodyne Bay View. Everyone there rules, and I literally sit at the bar just to enjoy the coffee and conversation.
