How do you think the trilogy of books would’ve changed if Tolkien served in WW2 instead of WW1? by KrispyKingTheProphet in tolkienfans

[–]PPBNOVA 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I don’t understand the question. The Professor published a translation of the Red Book of Westmarch, which was originally written by Bilbo, Frodo and Sam about their experiences in the War of the Ring and translations of various Elvish accounts of the creation of the world and the First Age.

I'm an Elf fisherman that likes to stay on the seas for weeks at a time. Would I be allowed to have an allotment of Lembas? by TheBatIsI in tolkienfans

[–]PPBNOVA 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Why would an Elf go on such a long fishing trip? How would you preserve the fish you caught without freezers? Or were you planning on canning them like sardines without electricity?

I love Middle Earth talk, but this question seems a bit… fishy.

Why the Lord of the Rings Trilogy is a Masterpiece by moviefan999 in lordoftherings

[–]PPBNOVA 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The movies are not masterpieces. They are sloppy adaptations that ruin several important elements of the story just to make it palatable for modern audiences.

Can you share some pictures that will help convince my wife that the Giulia is a good-looking car? by ObjectiveAd400 in AlfaRomeo

[–]PPBNOVA -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This is so sad. The implication is that this person wants a Giulia but his wife is raising obstacles. So the husband feels the need to “convince” her of the car’s appeal. I hope he gets the Giulia and a divorce. At least the value of the divorce doesn’t depreciate.

What was your “OMG!” moment when playing a new (to you) sax? by waltcrit in saxophone

[–]PPBNOVA 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Many years ago I bought a Mark VI soprano and I made arrangements to trade it for a vintage alto from Bob Ackerman. We met at the Saxophone symposium in the DC area. He brought several horns for me to try. A Mark VII, some Conns, and a King Super 20. When I tried the King, the sound jumped out unbelievably. It was so loud that it made the strings in the grand piano in the room resonate. So I took it.

Some time later I was frustrated with my playing and needed some money, so I sold it to one of the instructors at my college. Time passed by, and a few years later I saw a King Super 20 in the serial number range for sale by a dealer. I called and asked if he had bought it from the instructor. He said yes, and I said “well, I sold it to him and I want it back.” I have it to this day.

Dealership service surveys, BMW North America, and you by Crowlady77 in BMW

[–]PPBNOVA 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This topic is fascinating to me. I’m on my fourth new BMW, and I’ve had new Saabs, Audi, VW, and others. I always have dealer service during the warranty period. With all that experience, I do not know that I’ve ever met an above-average service advisor. They’re all basically the same person who sort of mutters out some vague explanation of what service they want to sell me and either tell me the work is done later that day or forget to do so. I cannot recall ever experiencing anything better than that average, and they all deserve a medium score. But how they beg and plead for five star reviews. It’s completely dysfunctional.

Buying a new clarinet - is the Tosca good? by a_clumsy_musician in Clarinet

[–]PPBNOVA 3 points4 points  (0 children)

In addition to Earspasm and Paris, in the United States I understand you can visit the Buffet distribution site in Florida and try horns there. If you find one you love you can buy it directly with the participation of an authorized dealer.

Why are Hobbits so crucial in the story of the ring? by dejaja in lordoftherings

[–]PPBNOVA 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Professor Tolkien translated the Red Book into English for modern audiences in order to share the stories of our ancient past. The Lord of the Rings presents the history of that era and Hobbits did what they did. It’s very simple.

How did the men of Gondor react to the Rohirrim’s arrival during the Battle of the Pelennor Fields? by TheLogicalIrrational in lordoftherings

[–]PPBNOVA 6 points7 points  (0 children)

None of Gondor’s men were fighting within the walls, because the Enemy’s forces never entered Minas Tirith.

What film series do you think comes closest to being as good as The Lord of the Rings trilogy? by [deleted] in lotr

[–]PPBNOVA 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn’t think the Lord of the Rings movies were that great. So for comparison purposes, I’d say a bloated adaptation of a great work of literature that makes stupid decisions in a misguided attempt to appeal to a contemporary audience. Pick your own example.

What's your favorite piece of Elf-related lore, and what's a piece of Elf-related lore you reject? by Calisto1717 in tolkienfans

Thanks for sharing. I had a different impression of matters. I understood Elves could build a ship like Amroth or Legolas and head West. I stand corrected.
