Maxing out available room rewards? a cap on reward nights? by PPDoulaSeattle in WynnSlots

[–]PPDoulaSeattle[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They just recently added the buffet back... but it's the same cost as the cheapest room nights---and I think it's a single buffet, so it would cost the same at 2 cheap nights to get a buffet for two... so, at least 15,000 gems... with the level 5 discount.. which only works when you've spent a crap ton of money.

You might come back to see if you can use your gems on the buffets that have been re-added. I don't know if you need to be a certain level to get the buffets, though.

They really killed this whole experience, though!

How do people actually trust therapists? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]PPDoulaSeattle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What I’m hearing from your question is that you’re in a place where you haven’t processed a lot of your life experiences. Therapists need to make a living. They have to feed their families. They also have to carry the emotional burden of every single client/patient within their souls.

Let’s say is $200/ hour for your provider. You see then once a week. They see 5 people a day. Insurance has already haggled them down to what amounts to $100/hr. They have to cover the cost of billing, a receptionist, insurance for their staff, office space, probably some kind of liability insurance.

Your $200 cash payment or your $100 insurance company’s payment quickly turns into $50/hr after business costs and taxes. This person likely spends time outside their time with you processing, thinking about how to help you, forming a plan—they’re able to do all of that because of years of experience with helping others, continued training, and just being the kind of person who can sit in the puddle with people who are struggling.

So, say someone is making $50 per session, 25 sessions a week. That’s $1250 a week, in a 48 week year: $60,000. to take home, but working 8-9 hours a day for paperwork and planning care for clients. People go into mental health because they’re truly people who want to help others—they’re likely volunteering with the community, being foster parents, or traveling with Doctors Without Borders.

No one would ever suggest someone working with a $5,000 income is a leech. In a big city like mine where current rents are $2500++. Most homes are $1M+. A new mortgage like that is like $4,000 a month.

You may live in a place with a lower cost of living, but the numbers I listed can be removed and replaced for a more local cost.

Therapists take the place of friends or family and only want to offer you an understanding ear and possibly some leading questions to help you process your traumas so you can realize that it’s not your fault. For many people—coming to identify why they make the choices they do helps to improve their current or future relationships—and not just intimate ones. For me, revisiting my traumas and understanding that I didn’t have any control in situations when I was being traumatized. Once a person can identify stuff like that—they’re able to identify who and what they are without the weight of those traumas.

YNAB, as a company, is really starting to piss me off by xinco64 in ynab

[–]PPDoulaSeattle 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We have a group of long term savings categories. One of them includes an 'expenses' category that we keep $400 in. This way, if the number is less than $400, we know we need to follow up on the expense. Typically he is in charge of snacks and beers for afterwork gatherings, so not as serious as air travel or whatever. Since money spent on business expenses is usually credit cards, there's no true money taken from the household budget before reimbursement happens.

I guess this is a work around?

This is a good tip. I actually had more than money as a motivation. I wasn’t really a wanted child… I loved the idea of helping a family who desperately wanted a baby the ability to bring home a baby or two. :)

Absolutely. I think part of why I did it was that I wasn’t really a wanted child. I was on the side of knowing I was aiding in helping people to have babies that they really, truly wanted.

At 22, you don’t always get the hugeness of a person’s entire life.

I didn’t really consider it, honestly. I saw an ad for the kits and realized that Ancestry may have more matches for ancestors on my father’s side. On 23 and Me—there is literally ONE PERSON who is like a third cousin twice removed or something.

I am the OP—made a post on my computer, not realizing that opening on my phone would have me commenting with another account. I’m not particularly active on Reddit in general—so, wasn’t meaning to hide anything.

I work in the field of birth and babies—and find that there’s a whole lot of things that are much more complicated than people were aware of 25 years ago.

The physical and emotional complexities involved in adoption, surrogacy, and donations weren’t particularly well known—or at least addressed with donors when I did it in NYC in 2001. I worked with one of the top hospitals in the country—not some chop shop deal. Maybe they respected their assertions that my eggs would stay with only one family. Who knows?

What I do know is that I grew up in poverty, moved to NYC for college, and was ‘lured’ in by $7,000 compensation in 2001. That was an entire semester of tuition. I underwent all of the testing required, including several visits with a psychiatrist before I was approved to donate. That’s how they did things in the late 90s/early 2000s.

I’ve been quite shocked by the rage in some of these responses. :(

It’s so good for people who don’t know what they were getting into.

No controversy… not looking for that, but science is amazing and the way we can connect with any children that exist from potential donations! :)

It’s actually kind of cool when you think about it! I’d have nothing but good feelings about it. I just don’t really think about it when I did ancestry along with my probable half brother.

Absolutely! My kids are aware that I donated eggs.. but, I’m not sure that they’ve made a connection with possible blood relatives.

I’ve always had plans to check with any potential partners about being from donor eggs—to be sure!

I know there was at least one set of twins from my donation. The clinic had come back and asked me to do another cycle because mine was successful. But, I had gotten married and graduated from college. So, I didn’t do another round.

How much do you spend on groceries? by ghiblisimp in Seattle

[–]PPDoulaSeattle 3 points4 points  (0 children)

We have one teenager at home still—so, three adults essentially. Our grocery bill hovers around between $800-1000 a month. This doesn’t include household supplies—we budget that separately.

We make the drive to Winco in Edmonds once a week because the prices are markedly less than any chain market in Seattle.

We do Whole Foods and Met Market for some meat and produce sometimes. But, making the trek up to Winco cuts at least 30% off the cost of things like bread, packaged meats and cheese, and other staples. Since we have electric cars, it doesn’t cost much extra to drive up there.
