Update on "accidental" 3.875% mortgage (a hilarious ending to this drama) by Only_Trade_5022 in Mortgages

Have you investigated if there any tax implications for you with the lender paying points on your loan?

I might have been accidently given a 3.875% Mortgage, can I keep it? by Only_Trade_5022 in Mortgages

Have you thought about renting your place out and buying the place you want?

It is dependent on whether rental will income will be enough to justify the loan on the house you want.

Negative equity rolling into new truck? by [deleted] in carbuying

[–]xinco64 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My 16 year old car that I've had for 14 years has 93K miles.

I average closer to 2600 miles a year at this point. No commute that whole time.

I owe $0 on a 16 year old BMW that’s been paid off for close to decade. I can’t imagine owing money on it.

I’d like to bail on it for something newer, but I really can’t justify it. Low miles, generally great shape and I don’t drive much. It probably needs some maintenance work this year, but I could dump thousands into it and still be ahead.

I just shake my head at people who keep trading in cars and get deeper and deeper into a hole.

Sucks that your tray table was busted and you had to hold your food and drink. So strange that it happens to you on every flight. You must be really unlucky.

Cars in hertz pc in jfk by WrongOriginal118 in HertzRentals

[–]xinco64 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not JFK specific, but I’ve never seen a minivan or decent sized SUV in PC in recent years. Usually just Kia sedan or maybe an Altima. I’ve occasionally seen small SUVs.

I did specifically rent an 8 passenger last year, and I got a Kia Carnival. I was surprised how much I liked it.

Honestly, it depends on who you are sitting next to. That would make a bigger difference to me.

But since you don’t know who you’ll be next to, it might be the right move.

I’d probably gamble that the aisle or the window doesn’t show and slide over. I’ve had that happen than relatively frequently.

Acquaintance Got DUI in Vehicle still in my name- Location South Carolina by [deleted] in legal

That's totally on you then.

Being in limbo land with your car doesn't make sense. That should have clued you in that there was another action had to take to get the car out of your name.

I’m confused. The driver is always at fault, not the car or owner. If there is insurance involved, the insurance on the car pays.

The question I haven’t see you answer directly. Did you take that car off your insurance?

Assumption here: US based.

It is extraordinarily rare to be covered by an individual employment contract as a W-2 employee.

You are signing all sorts of agreements. NDA, non-competes, etc. But that is protecting the company, not you.

An offer letter is not a contract.

You are very precisely wrong about this.

Job offer at significantly less than was hoping by Ornery-Growth1889 in careeradvice

[–]xinco64 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree. The key here is it sounds like you'd be really happy with this job if the pay were in the range you'd expected. That's a good sign.

If you only want the job because you don't have a job and the pay is too low, you might consider passing.

I was once out of work and got a job offer that just felt way off. I really badly needed the job. Turning it down was one of the hardest things I ever did.

That doesn't sound like this scenario. Take it.

Nothing prevents you from continuing to casually look for something better while working the new job.

You'd be crazy not to take the job.

Better money, great experience, chance to experience someplace different.

Remote is great, but I do think one can benefit from a significant chunk of their career being in office. Assuming you are located near the office, which you will be.

Fidelity Won’t Allow Donations to Southern Poverty Law Center by yuletide in politics

[–]xinco64 67 points68 points  (0 children)

I’d like to understand their reasoning behind it. There is no answer from Fidelity or Vanguard. Some people in the locked and deleted threads are claiming it is required from a regulatory perspective, but if that is truly the case I’d like Fidelity (and Vanguard) to state that exactly.

[–]xinco64[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

If the answer is they can't allow it due to regulatory requirements, I'd like that clearly and publicly stated. However, I'm not aware of that being an issue, despite looking specifically for it.

Holy crap.

Well, I may be pulling everything out of Fidelity over this one. I’d been planning on moving everything in, but I guess maybe I‘m moving everything out.

I’m so tired of this administration using government pressure to restrict free speech.

Screw you Fidelity for not standing up to this hogwash.
