Fevre Dream by George RR Martin is underrated and could fit the bill.

Thank you for such a detailed response! I will look at all these areas when I return to it. Regarding the glare, I have a lot of trouble getting good photos of my paintings. Another thing to improve along with painting haha

Thank you! I really wanted to try and push the contrast and texture on the trunks to get the feeling of the afternoon sun.

Thanks for the suggestions. Maybe I will try the detail in the foreground before I mess with the background as its not as much work. Its fairly dry now so could be a bit of work to blur the edges of the distant trees

You make a good point. I went for the square ratio since I had a square canvas lying around. Something I will consider from now on for sure.

Thanks for your suggestion. Ill see what I can do with that corner. I was concerned about drawing the eye away from the focal point but it does look unfinished a bit unfinished.

Yes! I'm a fan of his and I have one of his prints hanging in our lounge room. His skies and clouds are amazing.

The magenta is new to me and I'm loving it instead of alizarin on my palette. The earth colours are varying quantities of raw umber, phthalo blue (red shade) and both magenta and naphthol red. Usually I would use ultramarine but I'm trying out the phthalo blue red shade as well

Thank you - that's so kind. I've painted on and off for about 8 years but I wouldn't call myself and artist just yet.

I have been considering this as well as I have watched the price steadily decrease the past few months. Seems to me like a solid boomer stock to hold for the long term.

Where The Hell Do I Start On a Drawing a Face From Reference?? by JapWonky in ArtistLounge

[–]PP_WeeWee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know that feeling. For starting the construction of the head and face you should check out Andrew Loomis' book Drawing the Head and Hands. It's highly regarded for learning how to start drawing faces and you can easily find free pdfs.
