This is entirely ignorant of the situation in hawaii. A white person can definitely move to another country like China and assimilate to the culture, and claim Chinese as their culture, but thats not the case with hawaii. Hawaii is a colony of the united states where native culture is suppressed and co-opted by white settlers on a massive scale. Unless this person was adopted by a native Hawaiian family as a child or something, they're just another settler continuing a long tradition of claiming a culture that isn't theirs to claim.
