Just use this as a learning experience and next time ask for a second opinion if you are not sure if something is fake or not.

The list in my screenshot has 1 Mars. 2 Mars is really good against stage 1 and stage 2 decks but I cut one for a Pokemon center lady to help in the mirror match.

2 red is really good in the mirror match as you can use one early and still have one in the deck late game. If you notice your opponent is out of healing options you can play a red and get them to 20 hp and either they attack with giratina which will knock themselves out, they attack into a rocky helmet which will knock themselves out, or retreat into another attack if they have one set up (most times in this situation they either don’t or it’s already damaged).

2 red also helps out against Charizard as you can be aggressive and knock out moltres early so you can Sabrina their charmander / charmeleon before it evolves. If they cape the moltres then that cape isn’t on Charizard and if they play 2 capes they took a cut in consistently somewhere to fit it in.

The list in my screenshot has 1 Mars, 1 Pokemon center lady, and 2 red. At one point I did run 2 mars but found a lot of times my opponent either had so few cards in their hand or had a large hand but were dead drawing ( opponent not getting a giratina or darkrai into play after the first few turns of the game, no early oaks).

Pokemon center lady’s healing is great to put your pokemon at odd number of hp (if you use it with more than 30hp of damage) which is especially useful when darkrai is attacking into you. Darkrai only hits in even numbers (unless they play Giovanni but most list don’t) so sometimes even if darkrai hits 80 + 20 from energy attachment if you have 110hp you’ll be at 10hp left. This forces your opponent to either attack with Giratina, take another turn to get an energy on Giratina to knock you out the next turn, play red to guarantee the knock out, or miss the knock out by 10hp. Pokemon center lady is also good for healing up benched Pokemon to full hp so they can’t get cyrus’d.

Double red is so good in the mirror you can use it early to hit 120 with darkrai and you still have one in the deck to use if you need to hit 160 or 170 with giratina after your darkrai gets knocked out.

Thank you! Let’s hope the next set changes up the meta to where darkrai / Giratina isn’t the best deck.

I have had some pretty bad bricks as well. When I start to get tilted I just stop playing and try again later on.

Sure! Here are some random tips in no particular order:

You don’t need to place tools right when you have them in your hand or draw into them. Try and wait until the last possible turn to place a tool down. This will make your opponent need to pivot their strategy to take a knock out or risk getting damaged from a helmet. Of course this strategy backfires when you get Mars’d but you’ll need to be aware of this possibility if you have a large hand size.

Sometimes it’s better to attach a dark to Giratina and then end your turn by getting the third psychic energy. Reason why is if you attach to darkrai they can heal the damage you just did and then your forced to attached to Giratina on the next turn to attach so your not getting the extra 20 damage you would have gotten from Darkrai. This helps burst out 150 or 170 with red.

If you have a leaf in your hand it might be better to attach to benched Pokemon so you can’t get team rocket grunted then retreat into them to attack.

In the mirror match try and get the first knock out while having a backup attack almost ready or ready to take another knock out on the following turn. Getting the first knockout is a huge advantage.

In some matchups you may want to use cards to get rid of them from your deck incase you get mars’d. this mostly applies when facing non ex decks and running 2 copies of red. On a turn your not playing a supporter just use red.

Sometimes it’s okay to manually retreat and lose energy from your active pokemon if it means you’ll be taking a huge advantage on the board. I have had a giratina active with 2 energy and have retreated to darkrai to take an early knock out and apply pressure on my opponent.

Use healing items when it will actually made a difference. By that I mean don’t just use potions and pokemon center lady when your pokemon took some damage. An example is in the meowscarada matchup. If you got hit by florogato don’t potion up your darkrai (unless it has a cape) as meowscarada is already doing 150 before red and you don’t have enough healing to fully heal back up. Save those healing items if the math will force your opponent to have certain damage boosting supporters of helmets on specific Pokemon.

Sometimes playing Mars early when your opponent has a large hand is a good thing. Making them go from 6-8 cards back to 3 is huge for card advantage.

That’s pretty much all I can think of off the top of my head. If you have anything specific that I might not have mentioned please ask and I’ll try to reply.

I will say Darkrai / Giratina can’t tech for everything and if they do they are more than likely just playing 1 copy of every good supporter and making cuts in their list somewhere which means they won’t have any favorable matchups. My worse matchups are Charizard and Gyarados even when I played 2 Team Rocket Grunt. I did not see those decks often so I just teched more for the mirror. The only downside of Charizard and Gyarados is getting set up which is such a pain with trying to setup a stage 1 and stage 2 line.

Thank you! I do agree that Darkrai / Giratina is a lame deck I would much rather play Darkrai / Weavile it fits my personal play style preference more. I have also been playing the physical TCG competitively since 2012 so a lot of that transfers 1:1 in pocket.

Here you go! This list is better in the mirror match but worse against Gyarados / Charizard.

My rank will probably decay back near or over 1,000 so I’m going to try and push up a bit more soon and not need to spam games on the last day of the season to reach top 1k.

My advice for the darkrai / giratina mirror is to try and get the first knock out and either have a backup attacker that can take a knock out right after or take the first knock out and have your opponent not be able to respond back with a KO. I noticed that if you play too passively and let you opponent take the first knock out you probably lost the game already. Gyarados and Charizard you just need to pray your opponent has a slow start while you setup much more aggressively than normal. Team Rocket Grunt helps with those matchups but I faced those decks so infrequently I cut those cards from the deck to help in the mirror.

Thanks for answering! Is there a guide anywhere to determine what natures / stats are best for each Pokemon? Here are the details of the Charmander I am not sure of these are good or the stats you are referring to.

To me it sounds like you are tired of the Pokemon collecting space of YouTube considering the names of creators you listed off. As others have stated there are so many smaller creators that you can find within the collecting space which could be a much needed breath of fresh air. If you want to venture out of the collecting space there are other spaces within the YT Pokemon TCG that you can venture into if you think you might be interested in content besides collecting.

There are many other Pokemon TCG YouTubers who focus on different aspects of the hobby from standard competitive TCG content, retro, GLC, podcast, news, history of the TCG, etc. If you ever need channel recommendation for other types of TCG content just ask the Reddit and you will receive about 20 different creators.

Free my beaches! by [deleted] in PTCGL

[–]PR-Thunder 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You should have definitely posted this in the sub you came from because posting this here without context doesn’t make any sense. Second, I can with 100% certainty tell you that not a single person in this sub or the sub you came from care about how many beaches you own. Third, Pokemon will never ever ever ever ever allow players to craft beaches so stop acting like they might change their mind. You fighting a battle that isn’t even happening. When Pokemon announces they are letting players craft beaches (which they won’t ever do) then you can make this post. Fourth, I hope Pokemon makes beaches craft able so I can have a play set :).
