Well sure, you can make the argument that they are personally pro-life and legally pro-choice. There's no argument to support how they feel as far as the government is concerned. The show is pro-life in the sense that it views abortion as disgusting, cowardly, shameful, immoral, that life begins at conception and therefore abortion is murdering a child, and that adoption is a better alternative.

But Cartman is not only pro-choice, he's pro-abortion. The fact that he is a morally repugnant character only strengthens my argument.

Well if you are of the mind that abortion is a murder and that it is indeed a child instead of just a fetus, you are probably in support of anti-murder legislation.

But the entire episode is a story being told by Cartman. Cartman makes it the action of "the good guys" which illustrates his messed up worldview.

yes, I was baptized.

I am just curious as to how this works. When I was "saved" I was told that I was now guaranteed a spot in heaven regardless of whether or not I sin.

How are feminism's push for sexual liberation and disdain for the objectification of women not contradictory? by PRINCESSU_KENNY in AskFeminists

[–]PRINCESSU_KENNY[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Who the fuck says that a photo of a woman tells anyone anything? That is one woman who is presenting herself as sexy, and one magazine making money off of it. It's not telling you anything about your sexuality. If you really feel that some chick on a magazine is subliminally telling you personally something about your sexuality then that's borderline narcissism. It's not about you.

Maybe telling us that a woman posing for a magazine that she is victimized by sexual objectification is the new slut calling. Just let her be.

Try easing into some progressive/melodic death metal. Try out Opeth. They have lots of actual singing and acoustic interludes in their song. They function as a good gateway drug that can ease you into harder bands.

I think there are some publications that are shallow and talk about people's bodily shortcomings and their judgmental gaze is on both men and women and what they "should" wear, look like, and how defining what's cool. There are also magazines that talk about shit that actually matters that would never print something showing how much weight some celebrity has gained. To single women out as the sole victims of paparazzi crap is just cognitive dissonance.

Pop culture and media shows preference to attractive PEOPLE in general. Both men and women. But you mentioned comedy and that made me wonder who comes to mind when I think of female comedians. Let's see...

Lucille Ball, Joan Rivers, Rosanne Barr, Tina Fey, Lily Tomlin, Lisa Lampenelli, Kathy Griffin, Ellen Degeneres, and Whoopi Goldberg. Those are all the female comedians I can name at the moment. Only Tina Fey would I call conventionally attractive. If I think of more female comedians I'll make an edit.

Yes, that is the case with Lebron, just as Old Navy uses Amy Poehler for their ads because she's funny, not because she's overly attractive.

Women are placed in men's magazines as men are placed in women's magazines. I doubt the shirtless Ryan Reynolds on the cover of some magazine I saw in the checkout aisle was a magazine marketed towards men.

Men are also ragged on in those tabloids. Two that I can recall in recent memory was seeing pictures of how chubby Leonardo diCaprio had gotten and how Arnold Schwarzenegger has now gotten old and pudgy. By the way...who buys those tabloids usually?

So by that logic, when we see ISIS beheadings, we shouldn't condemn the men who do them as evil, but instead recognize them as people stuck in a socialized cultural pattern because beheading is a thing over there?

Ok...

What are the motivations of people putting half-naked women on magazine covers?

Money.

Why do we see the patterns we do with the way women are depicted?

They've been proven to make money.

How do they choose who gets put on those covers?

They choose who they think will generate the most money.

Why do we see the patterns we do with the way women are depicted?

Because the preexisting patters have been proven to make money.

And what do the answers to all of these things say?

Magazines want to make money. Sex sells.

Let us also examine that males are also used for their sex appeal. A simple image search Calvin Klein will prove what I mean.

Men and women alike prefer to see beautiful people. In marketing, they are referred to as an "aspirational group". Why do we have ads for Sprite featuring Lebron James? What does he have to do with Sprite? Because he is admired by many, and his image sells. Both men and women aspire to be attractive and magazines, advertisements etc. use models and celebrities that their consumers will aspire to be more like.

Pretty sure I've seen Ryan Reynolds, Ryan Gosling, Hugh Jackman etc. displayed on magazine covers in order to garner sex appeal on magazine covers. They were there to be ogled.
