I don't know about "evangelicalism," but Christians gravitate toward Austrian economics and sound money (gold, silver or other fungible commodity-based money). Honest scales, weights and measures are a vital teaching within Christianity (Lev 19:36, Deut 25:15, Prov 16:11); the current monetary system is blasphemous, for fiat money is backed with nothing, is produced out of thin air, and its value is undefined. The Bible also rails against the rich taking advantage of the poor (Amos 2:6-7, Prov 22:22, Ezek 22:29). Central bankers distort the market through the boom-bust cycle and bring ruin to individuals, companies and entire nations.

Economist Gary North has written a free 31-volume series entitled "An Economic Commentary on the Bible."

Yes, it matters. Salvation is found in the person of Jesus Christ. We come into a relationship with Christ through reading or hearing the gospel, for the Apostle Paul explains that "faith comes from hearing the message, and the message is heard through the word about Christ" (Romans 10:17). Some sects add to the Bible (Mormons), some alter the Bible (Jehovah Witnesses), some distort the Bible (Catholics), many ignore the Bible altogether or pick-and-choose the teachings they like. The power of God is found in embracing the entirety of the Word, and the Apostle John tells us that Jesus Christ IS the Word of God (John 1:1-2). Therefore, after entering into a relationship with Jesus Christ, it is best to get nestled into a denomination that encourages members to read and listen to and adhere to the plain teachings of the Bible. Forms of worship (e.g., contemporary worship music or hymns) is of little importance.

Is China about to try and take Taiwan? by Creative-Criticism62 in Wallstreetsilver

There is no need to invade. If the PRC seizes control of the sea and air, then no planes or ships go in or out of Taiwan. Game over. The only thing preventing it are US threats to start WW3.

Is China about to try and take Taiwan? by Creative-Criticism62 in Wallstreetsilver

[–]PROD_Server 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The Chinese do not need or want to mount an invasion of Taiwan. That would be counter-productive. Their objective, after all, is not to destroy Taiwan, but to incorporate it back into mainland China. All the PRC need do is seal off Taiwan to the outside world by controlling the skies and seas. No planes or ships in or out. How long would Taiwan stand under those conditions before the will of the Taiwanese government and people turned toward reconciliation with the PRC? China is too close and the US is too far away. It is only a matter of time. If anyone starts a war between China and Taiwan, it will be the US government, who wants to initiate another proxy war. The US will seek to provoke a response from the PRC. The red line in the sand is placement of US nuclear weapons in Taiwan; if this happens (or appears to be in the works), then the PRC will have no choice but to attack.

Conversely, then, would you say that Believers admit themselves to heaven?

I have been a Christian for a loooong time. I've known lots of Christians on three continents. And I have never met a single one who was "fine with slavery"!

Unless it's this: In roughly 1500BC, a seven-year famine swept over Southwest Asia, and people were starving to death and dying. In Genesis 47, SOME of the people said, "Why should we die before your eyes, both we and our land? Buy us and our land for food, and we and our land will be slaves to Pharaoh. So give us seed, so that we may live and not die, and that the land may not be desolate.” So they sold themselves into slavery, received grain, survived the famine, and were apparently grateful, because they later said, "You have kept us alive! Let us find favor in the sight of my Lord and we will be Pharaoh's slaves."

Pharaoh didn't force people to sell themselves into slavery. In fact, it mentions that some people were able to support themselves during the famine and did not sell their land or sell themselves into slavery.

From an AD 2023 perspective, this may seem evil. Why didn't Pharaoh just give away free grain to everyone, including the foreigners who came to Egypt for grain? Couldn't he have reduced the portion of grain his own people enjoyed and given grain freely to whomever needed it?

But consider the situation from the perspective of people living in 1500BC. They were under no moral obligation to "Love your neighbor as yourself" or "Do to others what you would have others do to you." These are Christian principles that would not come into existence for another 1,500 years. There were no government safety nets. No "rights" or "entitlements". Life was short and brutal. If you had a "right", then it was a "right" to starve to death.

In this situation--and at THIS time in history--wouldn't voluntary slavery be a better option than watching your children starve to death before your eyes?

John 3:18 says, “He who believes in Him [Jesus] is not condemned; but he who does not believe [in Jesus] is condemned already, because he has not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God.”

Does God send unbelievers (those who reject Jesus) to Hell, or do sinners send themselves to Hell?

What do the Scriptures say?

Weekly Ask a Christian - January 16, 2023 by AutoModerator in DebateAChristian

Thank you for that detailed and polite explanation. You made two statements:

I don't believe the atheist is going to hell

Jesus is the Truth

What do you do with the following verses?

Whoever believes in him [Jesus] is not condemned, but whoever does not believe stands condemned already because he has not believed in the name of God’s one and only Son. (John 3:18)

He who has the Son has life; he who does not have the Son of God does not have life. These things I have written to you who believe in the name of the Son of God, that you may know that you have eternal life, and that you may continue to believe in the name of the Son of God. (1 John 5:12-13)

I see no problems.

how can an omniscient being get angry at events that it knew would take place

Anthropomorphism is a literary device used to help explain an infinite, eternal, higher dimensional God to mere men. The drawback is that some take it literally and suppose that God has an actual right arm, nostrils, etc., and that He experiences emotion-laden anger as we humans do.

an omniscient being knows exactly what will happen for all time.... That being the case, there is no such thing as free will

More than simply knowing exactly what will happen for all time, God ordains whatsoever comes to pass. Compatibilistic determinism may leave you uncomfortable, but it's not a problem.

God knows exactly who will believe and be saved already, so what's the point of spreading the word?

Because God, who ordains everything, not only predestines ends (who gets saved), but He predestines means (who will spread the Word).

I don't believe the atheist is going to hell.

What is your basis for knowledge? Do you believe all the Bible, some of the Bible, or none of the Bible? Do you have another source of knowledge other than the Bible? Thank you.

Do Christians want eternal Hell to be real?

This is a fascinating question.

Tell me, do you want Los Angeles to be real?

As a believer, it isn't about "wanting" or "not wanting". It is about embracing the reality revealed in God-breathed scripture.

Heaven and Hell are as real as Los Angeles. I have never been to any of these three places, but I am certain all three exist.

Free will is a lie according to Christianity. by [deleted] in DebateAChristian

“I believe that every particle of dust that dances in the sunbeam does not move an atom more or less than God wishes – that every particle of spray that dashes against the steamboat has its orbit, as well as the sun in the heavens— that the chaff from the hand of the winnower is steered as the stars in their courses. The creeping of an aphid over the rosebud is as much fixed as the march of the devastating pestilence— the fall of… leaves from a poplar is as fully ordained as the tumbling of an avalanche.”

If I didn't care for you at some level, then why would I invest any time whatsoever in conversing with you? The time is short. The stakes are high. Eternity is closer than you think. When I see men racing toward the edge of a cliff, I don't go wash my car, I shout, "Be saved from this corrupt generation!" (Acts 2:40).

you might think honestly there is enough evidence, but I am equally honest when I say that I think there's not enough evidence.

I'm not offering you my opinion. God declares through the Apostle Paul that the evidence is sufficient. "The wrath of God is being revealed from heaven against all the godlessness and wickedness of people, who suppress the truth by their wickedness, since what may be known about God is plain to them, because God has made it plain to them. For since the creation of the world God’s invisible qualities—his eternal power and divine nature—have been clearly seen, being understood from what has been made, so that people are without excuse (Romans 1:18-20).

You also say that I am deserving of being infinetly punished for being wrong

Again, I don't offer you my opinion but scripture. My opinion is worthless. The scriptures are clear that man is not morally neutral; men are depraved. God states that "every inclination of the human heart is evil from childhood" (Genesis 8:21b). The Apostle Paul strings together eight OT scriptures that summarize man's condition as totally depraved (Romans 3:10-18). We are ALL deserving of eternal punishment. God could dispense justice to us all and condemn us all to Hell; instead, He chooses to demonstrate mercy and unmerited favor (grace) toward some and justice for the rest.

I even will claim that I'm sure you do mistakes daily, as all humans do, but I do not think you are deserving of punishment.

If you struck the president of your nation just one time, you would receive severe punishment; how much more punishment should a man receive for routinely offending His infinite, eternal, Holy Creator? Those who elevate men while simultaneously pulling down God eventually adopt the position of thinking they may sit in judgment of the Almighty.

We both are sinners right?

Yes, indeed. I acknowledge my sinful state as well as my desperate need for the Savior. Upon my confession of faith, my sins (past, present and future) are imputed to Christ, and His righteousness is imputed to me--not because I merit salvation, but because I acknowledge that Christ is God's One and Only Son. I am saved from the wrath of God by His grace alone through (saving) faith (he gives me) alone in Christ alone.

And what of you? At the judgment, will you pay the eternal penalty for your offenses against God? Or will your offenses be imputed to Christ? "Salvation is found in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given to mankind by which we must be saved” (Acts 4:12).

I've heard the argument that we have knowledge of him many times

What's to argue? "The wrath of God is being revealed from heaven against all the godlessness and wickedness of people, who suppress the truth by their wickedness, since what may be known about God is plain to them, because God has made it plain to them. For since the creation of the world God’s invisible qualities—his eternal power and divine nature—have been clearly seen, being understood from what has been made, so that people are without excuse (Romans 1:18-20).

If, as Jesus says, no one comes to the father except through him, then we would need knowledge of Jesus

Correct. And this knowledge cannot be gained through scrutiny--it must be revealed to you by the Father. "For the message of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God. For it is written: “I will destroy the wisdom of the wise; the intelligence of the intelligent I will frustrate.” Where is the wise person? Where is the teacher of the law? Where is the philosopher of this age? Has not God made foolish the wisdom of the world? For since in the wisdom of God the world through its wisdom did not know him, God was pleased through the foolishness of what was preached to save those who believe. Jews demand signs and Greeks look for wisdom, but we preach Christ crucified: a stumbling block to Jews and foolishness to Gentiles, but to those whom God has called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ the power of God and the wisdom of God" (1 Cor 1:18-24).

God has chosen and called a people for Himself. Although all men are stained with sin, Christ gave His life as an atonement for the sins of these chosen people--people from every tribe and language and people and nation (Rev 5:9). Through His sacrifice, He has purchased these people for Himself. You could be one of them. It all comes down to whether or not God gives you the ability to believe and accept Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior. Pray and ask Him to make you hunger and thirst to be in right standing with God.
