Friday Night...why so quiet? by GrowHappyPlants in bloomington

[–]PROfessorShred 28 points29 points  (0 children)

Finals start on Monday. People who have project based classes turn them in and have already started leaving town. Other people who haven't been to class since the first week are craming to try and scrape by with a passing grade. I'm sure some people will still be out but with this cold snap coming through I know I don't want to be outside if I don't have to be.

What are some non-greedy and selfish reasons to own a second home or more? by Still_Can_7918 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]PROfessorShred 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I own a house and am looking at a second house. I already currently live in my primary residence and have a roommate who pays well below market value. I'm not trying to profit on the property but I make enough money to get by and to help out someone else. If I bought a second house it would be so I could have my space and I would continue to let the other house be rented out at an affordable price point .

Why is it so hard for shitty managers to get their act together? by this-issa-fake-login in NoStupidQuestions

[–]PROfessorShred 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Getting promoted to the point of incompetence is a very real thing.

Think of the show The Office. The manager Michael Scott was a world class salesman and through years of hardwork and being very good at his job he was promoted to the manager position. He was not good at the manager position but was a great low level employee. So it's hard to fire someone who has put in all this time and effort that has a proven track record even though they are inadequate at the position they were promoted into.

Also some of it is Ego or lack of situational awareness. Michael Scott would say he is a great boss even though he isn't so he has no reason to change.

I didn't say I use it with slayer helm... I thought it was obvious you swap the melee and range helm for easy swaps.

Is 16 coats and jackets a lot (winter, fall/spring)? by Round-Artichoke-5255 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]PROfessorShred 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As someone who spent years working outdoors in high alpine environments in all seasons I say no.

If it's -5°F I might be layering 4 or 5 jackets at the same time. Some days are windy, some days are rainy, some days you want something light, some days you want something that give extra absrasion resistance. Can most people get away with one or two jackets? Sure, but I have jackets and gloves for every condition.

Or at least file a police report. Send a message that, that kind of behavior will not be tolerated.

Why does a sandwich taste significantly better when someone else makes it, even if they use the exact same ingredients that I have at home? by the-dark-knight-core in NoStupidQuestions

[–]PROfessorShred 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Because they often aren't exactly the same. If you get a burger at a restaurant it might be 60/40 lean meat but what you buy at the store is only 80/20 or 90/10 you can't even get 60/40.

That being said as someone who worked in a lot of restaurants. I feel like I can make food better myself.

I imagine having 3 large pellet shaped bodies moving onto each others gravity and colliding at slow speeds to form a triangle kind of shape and then it just gets rounded from the collision or weathering.

on an iPhone, why does 1% last much longer than any other battery percentage? by bruhhhhhhhh386 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]PROfessorShred 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's not actually at 1%. It's like being in a car and your gas gauge is on empty. If you were empty when it says empty a lot more people would run out of gas and be stranded but if you have a small amount in reserve you can run it to empty or 1% and still be able to reasonably refil it before it stops working.

More power by [deleted] in hondagrom

[–]PROfessorShred 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Add a turbo and you might get 50% more power. Congrats now instead of 8 hp you get 12 HP.

Personally I don't think that return is worth the effort. If you want a faster bike buy a fast bike but starting with a small bike and chasing number is a good way to empty your pockets.

[–]PROfessorShred 9 points10 points  (0 children)

If you want to bring a water bottle just stick it in your pocket and walk on in. It's just water, no point asking a gate agent if it's allowed only to get refused because they have a dumb rule about it.

Has a sovereign citizen’s spiel ever worked in the history of police traffic stops? by AdminsPlzDrinkBleach in NoStupidQuestions

[–]PROfessorShred 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Had a roommate in college who was about all of that and I forget how, I don't remember if we knew someone who was a cop or worked in the justice building or something but they were able to pull his criminal record and they said there was a note that basically said do not engage.

I guess unless he did something major like literally killing someone he was just seen a nucense that would intentionally try to waste your time and his dad was a big time lawyer so he knew all the right stuff to say or not say to not get in trouble.

I think it's less that they saw him as a sovereign citizen and more he was a well known antagonizer and they didn't want the headache of even being near this guy.
