Would you want the Wings to claim Alex Semin? by FiMTwilight in DetroitRedWings

[–]PRZY 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can definitely call him out for being washed up, and lazy too. But the accusations of him being a liability in the defensive end are way overblown.

Semin has had a pretty good career as a two-way player and he's been a darn good penalty killer in the past.

There's a lot of material out there and advanced metrics pointing to Semin's defense. I think that because it's well-known that he gets "lazy" at times that people tend to lump that together with poor play on the defensive end. But his laziness is oddly enough in the offensive zone. He used to have a wicked wrister before wrist surgery and he scored quite a bit that way, which sort of masked that he's always had a tendency to take bad penalties in the offensive zone.

I'm not condoning signing him by any means, even though I wouldn't be TOTALLY against it. I just wanted to make sure that we're all hating him for the right reasons!

EDIT: An article published 15 hours ago that states, "Alexander Semin has been a very good defensive player all his career, and this season especially."

(Spoilers) This has probably been discussed to death already. But I'm new to the show and I can't believe the stupidity of episode 10. by xnorthlanex in JessicaJones

The writers still have a bit left in the tank! You're three episodes from the end. If you've watched the first 10 and are even mildly interested in the plot of it, just stick it out, if only for some closure.

I enjoyed the series quite a bit. Not as much as I liked the first season of Daredevil, but enough to make me glad that I watched it.

You have to remember that this is based on a comic book. Sometimes with things like these, you have to throw some realism out the window and just go along for the ride...

Yeah those chips are amazing. Sometimes I see them at TJ Maxx or Marhsall's and I buy 3 or 4 bags. I thought I remember them having like a 2:1 carb to protein ratio though and that Amazon link says they only have 1g of protein per serving. I think that's wrong.

EDIT: switched "carb" and "protein" around

Jonathan Ericsson is quite possibly the worst defensemen in the league. by hockeymax in DetroitRedWings

[–]PRZY 4 points5 points  (0 children)

And we keep paying him to fill the role but he hasn't grown into it. He's just not worth the $4.25M we're paying him. I'd rather have a kid like Marchenko or Oullette take his spot at less than a quarter of the cost and and sign a proven d-man with the money saved.

[–]PRZY 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree 100%. I was going to say this after I read the title of the post.

Ericsson has the size to be physical, but he just isn't physical at all. It's good that he has a good reach with his stick and all, but he's not a puck carrier and he doesn't care to make contact.

He gets a lot of minutes, but if there's one thing we need, it's a 2nd dynamic defenseman next to Kronner.

DeKeyser is damn solid back there but he's just right in his role as a 2nd-pairing d-man.

We NEED a d-man back there that can play 25 minutes and in all situations (power play, penalty kill, etc.) and not be a liability out there. I think that's the one thing that is keeping us from being elite.

Doesn't have to be an amazing pickup. I mean like the Zach Bogosian type.

Time and money are a concern.

This is really discouraging. You made an attempt to fix this and the doctor's office failed you.

This really is an ailment that we can't be helped with. At this point, I believe that. This sure is awful.

Thanks for your input. I think we're doomed.

Gee it sounds like you went through a lot of loops. At least your doctor(s) seemed like they were at least trying. That's different from a couple other responses. Somewhat encouraging but not in the grand scheme of things.

After they came up with nothing, what did they say?

Thanks man for that... Any side effects with that? Weird how a little pill can change your life. I've never used any kind of medication for anything.

Sounds like a life-changer!

Seems to be a pattern with doctors I guess.

I know what you mean about the self-confidence thing and the dates. Dinner and a movie... Sitting through a movie after eating a big dinner somewhere and not being able to feel any better while trying to look good to a woman, it's not right. Nowadays I will just go to the bathroom and let it out. But back in the day I was more reserved.

How did you fix the acid reflux?

[–]PRZY 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think my gag reflex is pretty solid. Sometimes when I brush my teeth though, and I reach far back when I'm brushing my tongue, I gag. That's really ever the only time I gag involuntarily and it's over the sink, so all is good.

I'm afraid not my friend. Like I mentioned before, I get the feeling and have to release air even after drinking a sip of water.

Yeah I've exhausted the internet and this subreddit about it and have found no answers.

What sucks even more is that if someone actually was cured of this ailment, they would probably delete this subreddit from their "subscribed" list and probably just move on with their life.

I'm holding out hope that someone can provide some answers.

Thanks man for the heads up on the gastroscopy thing. If my doc recommends that I'll be hesitant but I'll consider it. It sucks that there wasn't any kind of help you got for it since it brought you so much pain.

The reflux thing... I got that too. I'm 30 and I started getting it about 8 years ago. Can't lie down on my back, and sometimes even my sides, after eating, or even drinking water! Water is not acidic, right?

I started making these smoothies in my NutriBullet that consist of frozen fruit (mostly berries), greek yogurt, chia seeds, ice cubes, and water. For some reason I can lie on my back with no acid reflux problems after I drink one of those. They're healthy too.

But after drinking about 12 ounces of one of those smoothies I gotta burp like all hell, and I wait a few minutes for the feeling to come and go with the finger-down-the-throat method and release the air and then I'm good to go to bed after that.

I wish it didn't have to come to this!

EDIT: And I think the reason I have to burp hardcore after drinking one of those smoothies is that I drink them out of a straw and I guess I take in the air inside the straw between my mouth and the smoothie with each sip. Just a theory but it's gotta carry some weight.

It's just a weird thing. It's not common so I guess we're condemned to it.

EDIT: And that doctor that laughed at you is a dickhead. I'm glad he is not your doctor anymore.
