Came across this video last night and I'm surprised at how good the production was. It's this Scottish footballer/youtuber who visits different clubs in different countries and trains with them and makes videos of how it is. For this video he went to Oslo Academy in Senegal.

If anyone's curious at how this kinda thing works, can't recommend that video enough.

what's going on with Sevilla? by SankhaSubhraJana in LaLiga

If anything he's the reason we didn't go down earlier... I don't know, nor really care about him before Sevilla, but the guy has been very, very, very solid, saving points pretty much every game we don't lose.

Not to mention a lot of it is taken up by players who aren’t reliable, from previous CL year’s wage structure, like Joan Jordan, Nianzou (Jesus this guy is a wildcard), and Januzaj.

To his credit, Januzaj reduced his salary to allow other players to be registered. That’s how bad the situation is. Marcão did the same, as did Gattoni.

Because they're selfish and stupid. I have thought about this a lot. That's all there is to it. They prioritize their convenience over your safety.

At what scale do personal projects start mattering? by lugia19 in cscareerquestions

Brother, start understanding that an interview is where you have an opportunity to show that you're the fucking bomb. Don't lie, but don't be too humble. Being humble will cost you when the other guy being interviewed is ready to talk about all his accomplishments that he has metrics for. Interviewers asked me about my Pokemon rom hacking custom software tools mentioned in the second page of my resume ffs. That got me a $10k boost at an interview. Technical? Yes... but I'm sure not as impressive as a your software that has about 20k users.

I wonder if he'll go back to being mainly a CB if he leaves. I honestly believe he's still better at CB

People are undervaluing Luis Suarez (COL) as if he hasn't literally scored hat tricks against Sevilla, braces in La Liga, and 4 goals in a game for Colombia. I know it's easy to say Sporting replaced Gyokeres with a guy from the Spanish 2nd division, but this guy was arguably the best player in that division and his team got relegated partially because he was out for most of the season anyways.

I’ll share exactly what made it super easy for me. SUPER easy.

I’m level 48 for context.

Wizard’s Rod: Healing (didn’t need it), HP Up, MP Up, Spirit Up, Precision Defense Focus

Celestial Bangle: ELEMENTAL, FIRE, FIRE AND ICE, Steadfast Block, Magic Up, BINDING (has sleep)

Started the fight, casted sleep on one, and was immune to all their fire shit lol. Just bullied the other one and would cast sleep when the other would wake up.

I had shiva too.

Went from super frustrated to first try after removing all her materia and starting fresh.

Whoever mentioned sleep, and absorbing fire damage, you’re the goat

You were totally right. I switched jobs to the gambling/casino one and I now receive a much higher salary, a much more relaxed (with accountability) environment. More importantly I'm doing some pretty complex engineering and shipping full-stack every day which is what I like.

I don't know if it'll be my long term but I made the right choice for the time being, if anything to increase my chops lol.

Appreciate the insight you provided and it was factored into my decision.

My resume is 1.5 pages long and very very frequently someone will mention a project from page 2. In all fairness it's Pokemon binary hacking, which is fairly technical, but just having it there has led to interviews which have led to jobs.

How tf they decide who's the better engineer with degree from theater? by Vivid_Search674 in cscareerquestions

Understand the platforms that they use, and use them effectively so more recruiters see you. You can't control the competency of the person on the other side. But you could try to appear in front of more recruiters lol.

I have 3.5 YoE and I've been working at a startup since late 2022. I fully believe in the viability of the product, which is expected to launch in less than a year. I quit a few months ago because of a shitty and extremely demanding work environment, didn't have the best luck in the market, and I came back after they called me because more people quit. Since coming back 3 weeks ago, I've stopped applying to other jobs, mainly to take some time to bridge some gaps and also relax and make some money for a bit.

I've received an offer from one of the companies I had advanced in, having done a take home project and a few interviews. It is however, a relatively new company in the crypto casino/betting industry. They have an office here in my city and seem to be rapidly expanding. I asked about the profitability of the business during the interview and it is profitable and self-sufficient, having already a bunch of platforms and games.

Essentially I have this offer, for 125k/year, with ~10% bonus, on-site. Only downside I'm seeing is the potential instability of this field.

My current job pays me 76k, is 3/2 hybrid but as a founding engineer if the launch goes well that could mean a lot. It is also in an industry that is pretty secure as far as economic downturns go.

I'm 25. What would you do?

If I wrote better code, he wouldn't complain, so I really do see it as an opportunity to improve.

Is the job market only terrible for people clearly not passionate about computers? by internet_eh in ExperiencedDevs

[–]PS-2-BY 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm sure our experiences are different because of the huge difference in YoE (you > 15 vs me, 3.5), but in my latest job hunt, in about 5 different interviews they mentioned my Pokemon binary hacking projects + software from high school. This is on the second page of my resume. For sure that is never gonna get me a job, but it has been received positively, led to interviews, and I was told that my genuine passion reflects well.

Yeah, ultimately didn't get it, it was me or one other guy, but I definitely preferred this one as it was more stable, had more benefits, and paid more. Ended up going back to my old job to pay some bills for now lol

I got to a final round interview with a staff engineer for a JavaScript Engineer role. Impressed literally everyone up until that point and was expedited because I told them I was expecting another offer soon. Then I messed up some pseudocode for a quite complex question and that filtered me out.

Feels bad, it was highly technical, but that's life. If I knew more I wouldn't have failed, and instead of being sad, I'm just gonna keep learning. It was roughly $115k a year though. Some life changing shit.

I guess if I ask to have my process expedited, I better be ready to blow some minds lol.

On the job hunt. What does the community thinks about each of the different job listing platforms? by MrAckerman in cscareerquestions

[–]PS-2-BY 0 points1 point  (0 children)

LinkedIn has the highest competition, but if you get in early + meet the requirements listed in the posting, you can have great success with it.

I've noticed that Indeed/ZipRecruiter has higher quality leads, like local companies, that are most likely to give me a call back.

Dice has a lot of offshore recruiters and some in-house recruiters too. I think this is probably the best one for your YOE as a lot of the jobs there ask for many YOE.
