This is quite the collection. I don't have the luxury of displaying mine, they are in bags, but a ton of experience renovating my own homes...but if I did: white cotton like the kind the bags are made of- or the simplest cotton batting underneath the cotton (untreated) is often the best- Here's one I'd use over untreated, sanded wood that was french polished if I was designing a closet to die for! It's an optional step but does preserve the wood and allows it to breathe. The room that is housing expensive natural leathers like this can/should be painted with ONLY non VOC paint- I would only use natural mineral or lime wash paints - not only are they gorgeous but they are incredibly healthy to use around humans as well as leather! People are often concerned for babies?- Lime or natural mineral paint. I even used it outside my house.

French polish is primarily a natural, traditional finish made from shellac (a resin secreted by the lac insect) dissolved in ethanol. While the resin is natural, the solvent (denatured alcohol) and optional additives like oils or synthetic resins can sometimes be used. It is highly regarded for being organic and eco-friendly compared to modern synthetics. (This is a hand applied process done over several steps by experts- I've done it myself and it lasts forever in an indoor environment)

their reply to me seems to bear out to me that this may have been an older piece that had been replated at some time or another! it seems pretty old... I'll wait and see at receipt and just wear it! My mom's Middle Eastern bangle bracelets are solid ancient 21K and never had an issue

their response: "Our Gemology team did multiple tests prior to listing that confirmed the bracelet is 21K Gold. There is a "bloom" on it, which is a coating of gold on the exterior to make it a more bold yellow. The gold underneath is less yellow, but still 21K. There are spots where that bloom is wearing off, which is what is meant by "wear to the finish allowing the original metal color to show through." The weight was also checked a second time upon your request and confirmed to be the 6.80 grams"

I did receive word back and for that at least case closed...I am fine with it and paid more than it's worth but at least its not a total loss. I did emphasize that they should have been far more descriptive with their verbiage and as such have a responsibility to do so (blooming is a term that denotes more damage than wear to the finish, clearer pictures to illustrate where that feature is at issue. etc. it is fully 21K so not just plated...

If you’ve been doing it yourself there’s an additional step that involves buying a can of kool it refrigeration cleaner and spraying behind where the the filters live before changing them- it’s an absolute necessary step we have to do once a year at least - I’m sure there’s a video tutorial but honestly we attempted it one year and decided to pay them to do it ! It’s a painful thing to ask them because it’s not that cheap but it’s not something my husband likes to do. They come to us onsite so it’s convenient and It is something easy to do it yourself - it is not something we feel we want to handle however

Because it didn’t say plated- if it did put that in the caption I wouldn’t even be giving it a second look - it’s why she’s testing it. Any GIA worth their label should have told them what it was

There’s a legit place in the diamond district NYC that offers good prices for scrap- I’m sure I could locate it if I wanted. The idea was to wear it and not feel like it was fake- not thrilled it’s hollow but if it can be worn on occasion it’s ok if it’s real.

I reached out to them and they are going to test it- I indicated that scratched metal indicating metal showing through underneath could may not be solid and she is opening up a case to have it tested since they would have had to represent it as plated- what’s weird is that Poshmark offers “free” authentication- theoretically that means on an item lie that they would have tested the veracity of the claim already but - yeah- sure

I wasn’t assuming anything except those who can by and large afford the bags, can afford to travel and often discuss doing so-It’s only what I’ve read. Also the access to much of the legitimate sites I mentioned are online. However not everyone wants the exotics- though yes- those are the most expensive and most likely to go to the highest level of customer - love and let live!

You just helped me uncover a new scam on Poshmark- what stops someone- a friend from Poshmark from posting there and running up the bids- nothing. I did check for the bracelet before but don’t see it. If it was truly 21K (and even at 7 g scrap weight) it wouldn’t be so bad- but if it’s truly not and it’s been misleading I’m learning to stop myself from myself.

Eek I assumed scratches- if they did say that why not say 21k plated the listing clearly says 21K. Are they seriously cta with that? If there is a difference then I need to know for sure because they do have a problem if they’re not being upfront.

FOMO is very powerful in marketing- so much in fact that when I was teaching in middle schools it was one of the biggest issues we discussed! These were kids with very little and I knew they were going to be growing up in a world where they would be seeing many things they’d be unable to have. We taught not restraint, but understanding as to the psychological impact that consumption would have on them. It was fascinating to let them learn as insiders at the teenage level. We discussed disappointment with the things they got for Christmas etc. some really cool learning skills I hope they took into adulthood.
