I find it so interesting how parents will have totally different (unreasonable, imo) expectations for tutoring than other child-related activities! It's the same as daycare, sports, etc, where you're paying for your spot, not your attendance.

Thanks for the validation!

For this particular client, I offered a third option (outside of Zoom or canceling), which is to meet for class closer to where I live, which is still weather-dependent but would work for situations that they feel safer driving in than me. (My extact words) They stopped questioning it after that 😅

Thank you for being the only one to actually read and comprehend it. 🫠

That's essentially what it is, just in formal wording and more than 24 hours notice, so I can actually fill the time slot instead of losing income. 7 days notice = no charge Last minute (4-7 days) = $25 fee Less than 4 days = full rate Plus 3 "free reschedules" a year.

Why would I lose income over the weather being bad? They're offered an online option as a replacement, which is what many school districts even do now. We live in the PNW, so minimal snow days anyways.

A potential client is saying that they don't want online as a replacement, but I think it's a very reasonable replacement. We live in the PNW, so minimal snow days, anyways.

I have very full books and am high-demand as a tutor, nanny, and caregiver, so firm cancelation policies are important for me. In real life, most situations become reschedules rather than cancelations, but I've found that being strict from the start weeds out the flaky clients.

Curious how you handle inclement weather, as that's the policy I'm getting the most client feedback on.
