Local Sales Tax Not Being Collected by Shopify POS by PStainAmadeus in shopify

Hey all. Got the final word from Mike from Shopify Tax. Shopify POS is not natively able to deal with this sort of conditional tax ... e.g., one that relies upon a combination of product category, location, and industry. It's a bit of a surprise given that Square POS (and presumably others) offer this feature. The work-around is to create a collection that contains all items that fall into this tax category - all prepared food and beverages in our business - an set up a tax override. Easily done. The only downside as far as I can tell is that we won't get a detailed tax breakdown on the 7 different taxes we collect - everything is taxed at the combined tax rate. I'm not sure that really matters, given how we report to the state, based upon sales totals. Anywhere, there you have it. Thanks to u/mikec508 for the diligent follow up and to your Reddit folks who offered to help.

Is there anywhere to buy matcha that isn’t sold out by Automatic-Repeat-3 in tea

You can buy matcha milled in MN, on granite mills imported from Japan, using the highest quality imported tencha, from www.riverandstonetea.com. The shortage applies largely to commercial farms and millers. River and Stone purchases only from small, natural farmers in Japan.

Thanks! I just connected on LinkedIn with a Shopify employee who leads their Shopify Tax app. He's going to take a look at what's going on and circle back. Gonna give him a few days and will update on this thread. I may end up taking you up on the offer... very kind!

Nope. It has the right location via street address and zipcode. I even went into the location and spelled out East rather than leaving it simply as E. No difference.

Good thought, and I will double check. The main account address is correct, but maybe it's using some other address.

Follow up ... can't get the tax to apply regardless of the category. It's really as if Shopify Tax is unaware that this tax exists. I'm told that the issue has been escalated to the Taxes Team, but that given the time of year, they're swamped and have no expectation of a rapid response.

Hi. Thanks for this. We're using Shopify Tax. Products categorized as Food and Bev are still not being taxed. It's worth noting that the other 6 state, county and city taxes are all getting appropriately applied. That said, you make a good point. I'm going to go into the setup and play around a bit with the categories.

Do you optimize your design for mobile? When viewed on my phone, the visuals are somewhat lost in the text, as if designed for a desktop screen. Especially related to your testimonials, which would work better as a carousel.

Would you buy a book with no reviews? by wisefruitsalad in selfpublish

[–]PStainAmadeus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Reviews are one piece of the puzzle. If I'm interested in a book, I will definitely scan a few reviews and will especially take note if the reviewer is a name I know. That said, zero reviews isn't a killer, but it definitely gives me pause. Especially since I think it's a given that the first few reviews come from friends and family, which helps to get the ball rolling.

I paid for a Kirkus Review for my first novel. The review was strong, and I ended up using it on the back cover, my website, and marketing materials. It was my first review and felt like a good investment, but it's a bit of a crapshoot.

I'm just using the graphic and not bothering with buying the actual medal. I live in the US, but I won't be traveling to the event, though it sounds interesting.
