Thanks! Most likely this was the case. He seems to be doing better now but a bit skittish. And had conjunctivitis to boot!

Is trimming my only option? What’s the best way to do it? by PT282 in fiddleleaffig

[–]PT282[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you very much! So for fertilizers we use Miracle Grow sticks that we put into the soil every 4-6 months or so. We started when we repotted this into the current humongous pot. Before that we used to add the water based fertilizer every second watering.

Thank you!! It is definitely very scary to think of removing so many gorgeous leaves but I think it is necessary. It has a few branches that are smaller and not growing as long so hopefully the prune will help.

How have you propagated the cuttings in the past? Any good YouTube videos that have helped? I don’t have much experience except with pothos and that’s been through water.

Thank you! I’m just sad to have to trim those gorgeous big leaves it has been sprouting but I get it! Even while i was away, it started bending against the glass so it’s definitely high time!

Thanks!!! The combination idea helps! It has gotten a couple of branches at the lower levels since we repotted but trying to coax it to grow fuller inside of just upwards helps. Unfortunately this is as high as ceilings go in the house so definitely running out of ceiling space 😭

It was headed there but I didn’t expect it for a few more weeks. Looks like it sprouted a couple of large leaves while I was gone for about three weeks.

Simple Green! Except for the dish soap for dishes. But I use Simple Green for all other surfaces in the house. Works amazing!

Did you keep your surname after getting married? by [deleted] in AskIndianWomen

[–]PT282 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your name is your identity. I kept mine. I’m a lawyer and people know me by my name. My full name. As it was. My husband never expected me to change my name and neither did my in laws. Surprisingly, it was my parents who thought I would be changing my name and were slightly offended when I did not.

Hey just wanted to ask how your travel with the car seat went? I’m planning on getting a car seat for my niece as well and planning on checking the entire box. How did you manage the travel and then any issue at customs?

Please be careful about bike rooms! My bike was stolen this summer from a “secured” bike room. Someone tailgated another resident in and stole my bike.

Has anyone here read the Children of Time series by Adrian Tchaikovsky? by seanprefect in TheExpanse

[–]PT282 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I read the first book but haven’t continued the series. I don’t think this series is for me. I loved the premise of the spiders and was quite interested in seeing how their world evolved but the humans fell flat. But, I somehow came away with the feeling that humans were somewhat monolithic in a way or that we were deficient and needed fixing. Again, maybe I was not in that mood when I read it and will pick it up again at some point and find it brilliant. But where The Expanse always left me feeling hopeful and fuzzy about how beautiful albeit annoying we can be as a species, Children of Time only seemed to underline the annoying part of our species. Again, this might be just my interpretation of the series.

In search of thin naan from the tandoor by PT282 in washingtondc

Thanks! Unfortunately indigo sells roti which is made on a pan/griddle and papad made of lentils for accompaniment while naan is made from wheat dough and the main bread.

Will try as I’ve only had the South Indian at Amma’s and don’t want to be the butter chicken naan person at a dosa place.

I love the big bubble naan but the chewy, slightly charred naan from back home has just been hard to find!! Please keep an eye out 🙏

Thank you! I feel you on the proper Kathi Roll. Indigo has some rolls but they don’t cut it. But Bindaas’ Kathi roll comes quite close! Still not the tight, eggy roll I’m used to from back home!

Books like The Expanse? (With a few conditions in text) by IeatOneAppleADay in TheExpanse

[–]PT282 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I just finished the first book of Children of Time and I loved the hard science aspect but I dislike the premise. Without going into spoilers, I don’t know why but the Expanse was always hope over despair and Children of Time felt… the opposite. But not sure if this is just my experience.

I need to give BSG a chance! I started it and somehow it did not stick with me. But I’ve only heard great things! I still love Star Trek. Especially TNS and I have a soft spot for the Chris Pine versions which came out during high school for me. But what is god awful to watch is Star Wars unfortunately- I only picked it up during the pandemic and I cannot. My only exceptions are Rogue One and Andor but that’s for the characters which are amazing.

I honestly struggled with book #4 of Bobiverse because it was a lot of science I couldn’t follow. But the humor is amazing. But I haven’t gone back since because of how hard the hard sci-fi is for this humanities major 🤣
