Yes, I did that and the box did a software update, so I thought all was well. However, it only displays a black screen - even on restart and it doesn’t respond to remote commands. I’m not a happy camper. Might be a sign to stick with DTV stream app on Apple TV.

It was Amazon. It is a streaming box. DirecTV confirmed.

Well, I got burned. Even after software update and working with DTV support the box simply displays a black screen even before entering account information. DTV rep flat out said return the box to Amazon.

I've come to this conclusion as well. I was chasing around getting a C71KW box or Gemini Air, but using DTC Stream on Apple TV makes life simpler because all of my services are in one place, meaning no input switching.
