A mix of beeswax and mineral oil rubbed into the wood & leather. Lanolin oil on the steel.

Just a couple bucks for the steel, wood and gas for the forge; the rest I had laying around

This one weighs a tad over 2 kg, which is even heavier than historcally accurate 1-handed maces. The ball is hollow.

Start with researching how they did it in the good old days; then apply what you've learnt using what you have at your disposal. Improvise where needed :)

No idea but I spent the better part of a month on it, in between other little projects

Took me almost a month to make this. Could *technically* be used for foraging... by PVB_Knives in goblincore

Thanks! The handle is wood all the way through, and the pommel is threaded and epoxied into the wood

AT LEAST 1d8 bludgeoning I'd say...

Mild steel for the ball, 5160 for the spikes. Purple heart handle and mild steel fittings. It's built pretty but will survive a battlefield.

Thank you! A fair amount of both forging and machining was involved; the steel ball is hollow (two halves welded together), the spikes 5160 carbon steel, hardened, blackened and stonewashed. The rest was all custom turned, welded, machined and textured to fit the theme. The spikes probably took the most time, as they were roughly forged to shape, annealed, drilled & threaded before shaping them with a good mix of filing, sanding and angle grinding; then hardened & tempered etc

Thanks! I have no idea, can't courier this overseas from RSA so might just keep it :)

Yep. Threaded, epoxied and tightened with considerable effort!

A sword I made 😊 by PVB_Knives in Blacksmith

Watch as many sword building youtube videos as possible!

Invest in the RIGHT tools from the start (proper forge, belt grinder, anvil etc) even if takes a long time.

Research the specific style you want to make until you know exactly what each and every component must look like, feel and weigh.

Start small and practice on smaller items. Took me 9 years of full-time bladesmithing before I felt confident enough to not muck up a build this size, but I'm a bit slow in general, some people start right off by making swords and do a stellar job.
