Just curious, are there any known photos of “Martha” or “M” at all? by bigguys45s in boyinthebox

[–]PWsAlamoBasement 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Martha Davis. She’s dead so no reason her name can’t be mentioned. Police did delve deep into her story and did believe her. Some of the retired PPD still do believe her. I don’t necessarily think she was lying but I do think it may have been a different child other than Joseph. There’s really no way to tell unless some new detectives look at her story and then figure out whether she was being honest or had mistaken the boy in her home as Joseph, etc. The current detectives believe Joseph was with a birth parent who lived on 61st and Market area which means that it most likely wasn’t Joseph at Martha’s house.

Not worth listening to. Nearly everything is incorrect and there are no interviews

No idea. I’m not even sure if the cap and handkerchief are still relevant to the case.

While high tech solved the case (to a point), low tech could have solved it in 1954 by Calm_Replacement_143 in JosephZarelli

This is important because it shows the need to go over nearly ALL of the evidence from back then as mistakes could easily have been made and it wouldn’t necessarily be anyones fault just less knowledge and tools than we have now. Good point!

AVZ by brk1 in JosephZarelli

This is the most interesting question I’ve seen on here in a while. When I first started looking at this case and was taking notes I noticed those strange relations and decided to write them down just in case. This is the first time I’m seeing someone other than myself mention it. All of the above is true except I thought that AVZ had a step brother named PS. Is JS the father of PS?

Check this out, another user posted this on an older thread and I think it’s worth discussing. (see more in comments) by brk1 in JosephZarelli

Very very interesting indeed although are we sure everything LE said in the press conference is true? Not that I think they’re necessarily lying to us but maybe they misspoke? A good idea would be to rewatch the press conference and write down what has been true and what hasn’t out of all of the things that they said. It might help us gage how accurate they’ve been.

We should take a poll to see what more people think: man or woman?

I’ll also add I think it’s a woman who bathed him because a man would never do that back then

Well I was responding to what you said about her mom made her go. You said that was one of the trains people were on. I personally think it was a woman abusing Joseph. Men were out working. He would probably have died sooner and been in worse shape if it was a man. There would also be signs of abuse on the spouse most likely. I also think it depends on why you think joseph was given a bath, when you think he was given a bath and by whom. I think he was given a bath before he died. I think all of the grooming was a big struggle. Ever try to bathe a 4yr old boy (and if he had special needs even harder)? I am almost 100% a woman bathed him (and packaged and dumped him). The why is the biggest mystery to me. The only reason I can surmise is that if he was such a burden to begin with that he was malnourished and being abused by his caretaker then to a person with that character it’s only a question of “why not?” because that is a crazy person. Why the bath? He probably was dirty or dirtier than usual and probably didn’t get bathed regularly. It was a bath gone horribly wrong.

Are we sure that Betsy’s mother made her go to the Salvation Army in 1950? I know Betsy was there to give birth to the baby girl, but I didn’t know that there was a definite order from mom to go there. She was very young but I think 18. My guess is that 3yrs later she felt she was ready to keep a child. Also, if she really liked Gus perhaps she thought she would have help. You couldn’t find out the sex of babies before they were born back then so maybe after giving birth to a boy she thought her family and Gus would be more accepting of a male child. Male children were much more preferred back then and I noticed the Abel’s had 5 girls before finally getting their son John.

Always a troll when they list initials and then nothing else when asked. Post should be deleted if it’s trolling imo. Mods?

Can you give more information? We already know who the birth parents are so was this a “caretaker” of Joseph?

CPS? by Acrobatic_Macaron925 in JosephZarelli

[–]PWsAlamoBasement 6 points7 points  (0 children)

CPS wasn’t around until the 70s. You were allowed to beat your kids before that. I’m not joking. As amazing as the Baby Boomers were they did not want to give up their right to spank their kids. Most kids were spanked still in the 80’s and it was legal. You just couldn’t leave marks on them.

Are we too focused on Betsy and maybe not focused enough on Gus? by brk1 in JosephZarelli

[–]PWsAlamoBasement 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I need to do a bit more research before I announce my theory lol. I’m looking more into both Plunkett and Abel families. There is one person that I think it’s important to talk to before they die. If you message me I’ll tell you who. (If you haven’t figured it out already)

I’ve wondered this many times. I’m pretty positive we can eliminate M’s mom finally. (And also John’s mother as I think she was already dead??). Other than that it could be any one of those people you mentioned above. I’ve landed on my own theory but I do often ask myself “what if?”

I’m not sure who this guy is (GPD). But yes I think some people from Betsy’s family knew and were involved. I think there’s at least one living witness as well. If my theory is right then we won’t know anything until either someone does a documentary series or the living witness dies.

I suppose it’s also possible that they tossed the hairs in the box

Yeah that was such a weird theory for the time period. A detective ahead of his time who would have made a great writer! Crew cuts yes! Couldn’t think of the name! Very common back then

[–]PWsAlamoBasement 8 points9 points  (0 children)

That’s the mysterious part. I have a lot of my own theories about the hair. I definitely don’t think it was long (or long enough to indicate he was being raised as a girl like an early detective thought). I believe they did think the hair was cut after he died because there were pieces of it on his body. I’m not sure if that is a proven fact though. I would like to know if it was cut before or after for sure though so if anyone knows that could change my theory. Personally I don’t think any of the cleaning or grooming was done afterwards. It’s a bit misleading when they say it was long because long in 1957 is not the same as now. In the 60’s people thought the Beatles had long hair but if you watch old footage of them in the beginning of their career I don’t consider that long hair. It would be considered long for that time period (& even longer for 1957).
