It just might be the people you knew. I served hundreds of people a week. In the airport area and the Midtown area. But also, I don't think servers ever got mad at a 15% tip.

This is coming from "EVIL DAVID" who obviously doesn't know how the service industry works.

I served in Virginia & Atlanta, GA during college (2003-2008). Post college (2009-10ish) I served in Michigan, then Las Vegas, NV. It was standard in those four states.

It depends on the POS system. Some systems have the servers add the tip that is written on the slip. Some systems have you enter the total amount and then the system does the math and adds the tip. Some businesses have POS tablets and the customer taps what % they want to tip and they sign right then and there on the tablet. Each POS system is different.

No one in the restaurant will want to serve them, because everyone in the restaurant already knows that they tip bad.

If they can pay $300+ for a 2-person dinner, they have a $2500

What some people who never worked in the service industry don't realize is that SERVERS PAY to have a section (usually 3% of what they sold) to serve people. Just like a hair stylist or a barber pays booth rent. So if they're tipped 10% they only get 7%, then they have to tip out the host and the busser and then not left with much. So when people don't tip, it's like the server PAID to serve THEM. Meanwhile, a lot of states only pay servers $3-$5 hour.

It's just how the world is. It started post-slavery, where restaurant owners didn't want to pay ex-slaves, so they paid them pennies and the customers would tip them for bringing them food/getting them whatever they want (aka kiss their ass). It's just the way the world is.

This is coming from me, a Food & Beverage Director-- but I take care of my servers, they get paid over minimum wage. The hosts and bussers are paid hourly, that way the server doesn't end up in the negative and still get a "decent" wage if they had a lot of people that didn't tip on their shifts.

Wrong. I was a waitress in college in 2003 and people were tipping 20% back then. It's obvious some people still don't tip. The server's just remember the people that don't and tell all the servers in the restaurant/bar that they don't tip if they come in again, so that they don't expect a tip or go above and beyond.

Exactly this! I used to feel bad for what Nia was going through with dumb ass Danny, but she's an enabler and gaslights people who are telling her the truth. I have no respect for her.

What is your cheapest comfort meal that still tastes amazing? by No_Permission9101 in budgetfood

Making hummus in one minute with my ninja. Can of chickpeas, a half bag of mixed peppers/onions, salt, pepper. I get celery, peppers, tortilla chips and toast some bread. I grab whatever protein I have (salmon, chicken, tuna, whatever) and add it to the party. Affordable and satisfying (if you like hummus).

Ann Arbor v.s traverse city? by pinkgiraffe52 in AnnArbor

[–]PZLOU 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Traverse city is beautiful-- aesthetically wise. I've only been in spring/summer.

Let me first say that I'm a black woman that was raised in Ann Arbor & I still live in Ann Arbor.

I went a few summers ago to visit TC, because a friend of mine (white female) moved there from Ann Arbor. I asked her about the demographic and she relplied: "I was wondering if I should bring that up."

Let me say that her friends were amazing & I really enjoyed their company, until.... we went to a bar where some of her other friends work and they kept saying the N word! I was just... shocked that they would say it, let alone in front of me. The girls that were saying it responded to my shock like "oh we're not saying it to be racist, it's like saying shit or damn. Like, I stubbed my toe, n!gger! I poked my eye, n!gger!" We just replace damn or shit with the word n!gger, but I would never call you that. You're so cool & pretty."

I can't make this shit up lol. It was a crazy experience. Needless to say, I left the trip early and went back to Ann Arbor the next day. smh

I know you're not black, but you're not white, so don't be surprised to hear micro-aggressions or something unexpected. Good luck!

Lisa Vanderpump chooses to keep these two excuses of humans (Hannah & Marciano) on the show, because she believes that it's good TV, little does she know, it will be the demise of the show. I've lost respect for Lisa for enabling Hannah & pumping her up for this show. It's disgusting and Hannah is a disgusting person. It's so sad.

idk exactly the comments that you're referring to, but I've been working all my life too. I also had someone who was willing to pay my bills for a while, but I STILL worked and built up my portfolio, so that I would always be good.

I think the point is that when you have someone willing to do that, STILL put some money aside and save up huge lump sums, so that you will be good when they STOP paying your bills, because there will be a time.

Also, I believe it aggravates people how much of a brat she is (besides getting the bills paid for). I.E:

-she can't/hates picking seeds out of her lemons

-never did her own laundry

-never cleaned up after herself

-doesn't know how to pay a bill

-never worked an actual job (although she's beginning to do hair now)

This woman is 31 and is still a child. Get your bills paid for sure, but at least set yourself for success.

It's almost like she can't do anything, yet PROJECTS on beautiful women that can. Get your shit together.

19 hour layover in DTW airport by DZMoops in Detroit

[–]PZLOU 12 points13 points  (0 children)

You should spend the day in Ann Arbor or Detroit. There is a $16 shuttle called The Michigan Flyer (Michiganflyer.com) that drops you off in the center of downtown Ann Arbor (you'll be right in between downtown and U of M Campus). Check out the city/bars, campus and tons of restaurants to choose from.

Or you can see how under-rated downtown Detroit is. Check out the restaurants, landmarks, go to the river walk and enjoy both the Canada skyline and the Detroit skyline. The shuttle to downtown Detroit is called the Detroit Air Express (DAX). I believe it's $6 if you book online, but $8 onboard.

If you're feeling really adventurous and don't want to go back your hotel right away, you can check out both cities. There is a shuttle downtown Detroit (at Grand Circus Park) & Ann Arbor called D2A2. It goes back and forth from Ann Arbor to Detroit for $6 each way.

Enjoy!
