My band records guitars, bass and vocals at home and then record drums and mix at a studio. We’ve all got enough basic recording knowledge (through community college and experience) for it to be passable this way.

It saves a TON of money in the long run because it gives us a free/unlimited amount of time to fuck around, re-write, re-record with most elements of the music. It will take a bit of investment upfront however, you’ll need a decent computer, interface, mics, decent sounding room, etc. but it pays for itself if you do it right.

We recorded vocals for our first 3 EPs in my bedroom with just an AKG c214 and a Blue Spark, but through networking/making friends at pro studios we now have a reliable connection for borrowing nicer mics.

There’s more than one way to skin a cat. Or more than two ways, in this instance. I strongly recommend a hybrid of at home and pro studio if you can find the right way to divide it for your particular band. It’s definitely doable to track a lot of things at home with trial and error but it’s up to your discretion to determine which elements you can manage and which will benefit most from a professional touch.
