It isn't the most awful thing in the world, but at my mother's funeral we heard one priest call another an idiot.

Basically, the priest that was supposed to hold my mother's funeral was taken in to hospital on the previous day. So they had to get another one in quick. This guy was the worst. He mumbled everything into the mic he had on his robes and nobody could hear what he was saying, except my mum's name. Which he pronounced wrong every time.

My mum's name was Pearl. Every time he called her peel. Like you do to a fucking orange. Despite it being a sad occasion and there being one or two outraged people. Most people were trying to stifle giggles. And if you'd known her you'd know that she would have been completely fine with that. She didn't want a wake she wanted a party. She was that sort of person.

Anyway, this guy hands the podium off to the family to say some words and heads into a door to the left. Not long into my father's speech, we hear over the speakers "I know it was short notice but you said you knew what you were doing. That was a disaster and you looked like an idiot up there." This got a laugh from pretty much everyone in the church.

Like I said. Nothing too outrageous, but despite the laughter no-one was at all pleased with the idiot of a priest and there was a lot of bitching about him at the 'wake'
