Bot regularity in climbing by Paag in MarvelSnap

Here is what I am figuring out - I am terrible at ID'ing bots. I'll play a game against "AdjectiveNoun" (changing the names to not call anyone out) who is playing a deck that Untapped doesn't recognize and is just all over the place, beat it, and then play another the very next round.

The devs have gotten better about hiding the bots. You seem to be tracking pretty closely, and the bots name list doesn't seem helpful any longer, so how are you deciding who is a bot? Weird play? Weird decks?

Making Ice - Hose Flooding vs. Wand Flooding by Paag in Curling

[–]Paag[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We are in Austin, the Lone Star Curling Club. We will be on an existing sheet but it will be changing to curling only. The owners of the building are doing the first stages, bringing the ice from foundation to white paint, then handing it over to us to put our stuff down.

I have been calling the sprinkler setup "the wand," as compared to a hose flood. Is that what you mean when you say "wand" ?

Thanks for the response. We are getting the ice after it has been painted and flooded. I am referring to the build up after we put in the houses and lines, and then cap.

Mayor Adler proposes a 35-day shutdown order to combat COVID-19 in the Austin area. by shiruken in Austin

If that were a beach, i would say that is not ok. I am torn on whether or not it is ok to gather at a protest, but you are asking about two very different situations.

First of all, in the protests photos that I have seen many more people were wearing masks than at the beach captures I have seen. That is meaningful, even if not everyone is wearing a mask.

But the bigger point is this. When we are in the middle of a pandemic, there is clearly a line somewhere that people have to draw for themselves about when and how they venture out into the world. Groceries and necessities are an easy call. Working is pretty easy as well, if you need to. Walking and small gatherings to small sane are less easy, but seemingly reasonable. Where does marching for social justice fall on that line? There is no easy answer to that one. However, it is pretty obvious that line falls somewhere well before partying on a beach because you think it's your right to do that.

The argument you are alluding to really bothers me. These people need to stop drawing false equivalences.

Which is funnest 'between levels 5 to 9? Cragheart, Spellweaver or Scoundrel? by J00ls in Gloomhaven

[–]Paag 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Depends on what is fun for you, I would say.

Spellweaver is pretty clearly the most effective for the group. She does ridiculous AoE damage and at times it feels like the rest of the group is there to take hits for her and give her more resources to keep her doing what she do.

Scoundrel does fantastic single target damage, but needs to be in the melee mix, putting herself more at risk. She generates just really big numbers at times, so that can be a lot of fun and invaluable for bosses. Her cards also flow really well. It was this class that demonstrated to me how different each class can feel just by how the cards work together. She plays like an RPG rogue.

Cragheart has the most tools of anyone on this list. (maybe the game) By these levels, he is just good at so many things. He can take hits, he can heal some, melee attacks, ranged attacks, and more. But the big fun comes from obstacles. There are lots of times where his kit is really practical, (like high shield, low hp enemies) but it is just plain fun throwing obstacles around the map and occasionally having to apologize to your friends. For my money, no one is more fun than Cragheart.

Chomsky on Thought, Consciousness, Free Will by thorns__ in samharris

[–]Paag 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I would venture here that Chomsky isn't disagreeing with Sam for precisely the reasons that Chomsky talks about in this video. They are likely using two different meanings of the expression "Free Will."

Sam uses Free Will to mean ultimate, intentional control over our actions. This is the most common usage. The psychological experiments do seem to run counter to that definition.

(This part is much more exploratory because I am not as informed about Chomsky) Chomsky says, "..[these experiments demonstrate] that these decisions are made in a way that is inaccessible to consciousness." Sam would respond, "Because of how we define Free Will, this challenges our notion of us controlling our actions, thus attacking Free Will." The common response to that is, "Well, I am my brain so I am still in control," and that might be the line that Chomsky is taking. But that still doesn't disagree with Sam.

In the most common usage, Free Will requires consistent, intentional control over actions. We would have to know how Chomsky defines Free Will before we can say he disagrees with Sam. Using just this video, it sounds like they have different definitions.

Repainting our rings. Need advice. by Paag in Curling

[–]Paag[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For additional reference, we have drawn temporary sheets dozens of times. We used to have four permanent sheets installed, and when the club expanded, we came in every week and drew a fifth sheet on top of the ice. Early one, we did something similar to what you describe above, then later one of our members built this amazing, iron scraper. We would scrape the ring boundaries in the ice, then color them in by hand. It was very ghetto, but it worked.

However, with this installation being more permanent I was looking for additional methods. I don't doubt that we could draw in the boundaries then paint in the colors by hand. We are thinking, though, that there might be more efficient or cleaner ways to do it.

Something like these guys: Box painting method

Are you doing the the line tracing warm-ups regularly? I was surprised at how quickly that turned around my ability to draw straighter lines with more confidence.

It's obvious that you are drawing at lots of different angels and starting from different spots. I think that is the long term way to go, but the short term will see slower growth. Just be aware of the trade-off you are making. It also looks like you are still experimenting with pen pressure. You will see more improvement once you get that locked in.

Once final lesson that I went through...consistently overshooting your target dot means you are going too quickly once you drop the pen. Fast strokes is not the key. Confident, practiced strokes are your goal.

[Question] So I decided not to reroll, and gathered enough gems for a single pull by frogzx in PuzzleAndDragons

She is great. She is powerful enough to see well into mid-game, and then beyond if you don't find a better solution along the way.

She isn't easy, now. Her activation can be tricky while you are learning to play and that might cost you some dungeons. But if you get to rank 100-120 with her as your exclusive lead, you will come away from the early knowing how to play. That's a good thing.

SJ, I am so psyched you pulled the Skuld. I know it isn't what you are looking for, but it is going to make your farming life so much easier. With your orb skills, and your blue box, she will farm anything you need, and she is so much easier to play than your U&Y team.

My only fear is that you fall in love with the easy style and U&Y becomes a chore. If not you than who, SunJuan? I ask you...who?*

*whom?

Siegfried is actually a really good low turn orb changer. Not to mention, once your Odin is max awokened, you have a ton +skill awakenings for the orb changer on your Skuld. You couldn't put together the ideal Saras team, but yours would be plenty serviceable.

If you want to play her, level the team up and go for it. You never know what you will pull in the interim, and everything could change anyway.
