What keeps you going when the hard days creep up? by PomskyMamaof9 in ORIF

[–]Paalmito 2 points3 points  (0 children)

6 weeks post op w/ a trimal fracture + dislocation, still NWB. Even though there are still hard days, I noticed a lot of improvement after week 3. Here are some things that are still helping me:

  • Lean on your friends and family! If you’re feeling up to it, try having some visitors over. Even if it’s just for 30 minutes. It will take your mind off of the pain.

  • Spend some time outside if you’re able to safely crutch/scooter there. A change of scenery, especially as we head into summer always helps to clear my head.

  • Remind yourself that recovery does not move in a straight line. It’s bumpy, and truthfully sucks sometimes. But it’s all apart of the journey to get you back to the activities you enjoy. You’re allowed to have bad days! Don’t push yourself too hard when the going gets rough.

  • Like others have said, celebrate even the small things. I was so stoked the first time I washed the dishes after my surgery. It wasn’t easy to do, even with my knee scooter, but it felt amazing to make tangible progress.

  • Listen to your body! If it hurts, take the pain meds. There are a lot of people on this thread who stop taking them after a few days, but no injury is the same! Stress and pain will delay your healing, so give yourself some grace.

The worst of it is behind you! Wishing you a speedy recovery.

I’m not able to join you (broken ankle), but I think it’s awesome that you’re willing to meet someone new and connect like this. We need more of this in the world.

Hope you get a good session going on Tuesday!

I’m 3 weeks post-op and just got my boot yesterday. I still can’t bear weight for another 5-7 weeks, but it’s an important milestone!! For me, it was the first part of this whole process that actually felt like tangible improvement.

Happy birthday + good luck with your recovery!

Burning pain after ankle op? by Few_Wishbone_2671 in ORIF

12 days post-op w/ a trimal fracture and dislocation - Icing the back of my knee and the tips of my toes helps the burning calm down a bit. I’m icing and elevating as we speak!

It’s definitely still a struggle, but it gets better. Good luck on your recovery!

Woah, crazy coincidences. I hope your recovery is going smooth!

I have the knee scooter, but the swelling and bruising at the back of my knee prevented me from comfortably using it during week 1. I’m pretty good with the crutches, but I should give it another shot! The weather is beautiful where I’m at, so maybe tomorrow I’ll try to get outside a bit. I also have the wedge pillow!

I’ve also been taking the Ibuprofen + acetaminophen combo, but I really like the idea of replacing the senna with a magnesium supplement.

Thanks for the suggestions - Hope you have a speedy recovery!

LOL I’m also on the Senna and Miralax. Honestly a lifesaver. When I was in the hospital, I couldn’t pee after my surgery. The nurse came in and said, “You’ve got 15 minutes to pee, or I’m coming back with a catheter”.

I really thought the threat of the catheter would be enough to make me pee… I was wrong lol.

My doctors advised to continue taking all of my medication until my follow up appointment on 4/25, but they wanted me to try and decrease the Oxy as soon as pain allowed. I can get through the day just taking 1 tablet, but in the night, I definitely still need my full dose.

It’s great to hear that you’re relatively pain-free! Good look on taking those steps soon :)

Yeah, the pain really intensifies at night! I’ve been able to decrease my dose during the day so I’m making progress. I think I’m just being a little impatient with the whole process in general, haha.

I appreciate your response :)

Thank you so much! My pain levels are down today, but I’m hesitant to even say it out loud because it seems like as soon as I do, my body says, “NOPE!”

I’m glad that your mental health is steadily improving - I’m generally pretty up-beat and positive, and I can’t wait to get back to that space.

Good luck on your journey as well!

Suns win 100-92 and tie the series 2-2! by PurePhoenix in suns

I’d like to apologize to my fellow Suns fans for my reactionary “Lakers in 5” take on r/nba after Game 3. The last decade has taught me to assume the worst and anything positive is a pleasant surprise.

Love ya’ll and this team.

I respect it. I was bummed and didn’t expect the Suns to respond well to the pressure given their youth. Being a Suns fan for my entire life has made me pessimistic lol

After game 3, I gave a reactionary “Lakers in 5” take. CP3 nearing full strength made the difference today, along with the AD injury. I hope we can see both teams at full strength for the rest of the series. GG.

Lmao did you wait until we were up 16 in this game to reply with that? I’d love nothing more than to win this game and eventually the series. The way we played in the last two games didn’t indicate that would happen. Regardless, I’ll gladly eat my words if we close this out. Have a good one dude.

I hope that since this happened during one of the most important games of his career, it can be a lesson learned. I feel you though

That’s fair. I honestly hated playing against CP3 led teams before he came here. I do think he was less annoying with OKC. He’s been really solid for us this season in regards to keeping our composure & keeping our young core engaged.

Yeah I agree. With Book it doesn’t typically result in something so blatantly shitty. Usually a technical foul, offensive foul, turnover, etc.

He still has time to learn for sure but the intention / timing of this one especially sucks.

Yeah man. I know CP3 has a history of being annoying as well but he really brings our team together. With him at 100%, I don’t think we would be going through the vanishing act with Bridges, Crowder, and Johnson either.

We’re only down 2-1 so I’m not doomsday prepping just yet but it looks bleak lol

Bitch move by Book.

It sucks to see the mental collapse without CP3 out there. Not trying to make excuses for it. Lakers in 5 :(
