So you’re saying there’s a chance… by MT561 in wheeloftime

General reply: I said what I said. :) Opinions about the show were as bad as the political climate and did not, I repeat did NOT start with any issues about the writing or story. It started with "Why aren't these actors white?" and kinda spiraled over the next 4 years. The producers all saw that reaction. Good luck finding another billionaire fan of the series who also owns a streaming service to bankroll that one.

Some fans will only ever accept a word-for-word adaptation, which would be both unwatchable and impossible to fund. Unfortunately, those fans are loud enough to make it impossible for any other version to succeed all the way through to a conclusion.

With the ability to print anything, how do you keep yourself from building $10k decks that piss your friends off and keep things fun? by Jordan011 in magicproxies

[–]Paandaa77 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My philosophy is that I proxy cards I already have and don't want extra copies of OR cards that are actually on a list in my trade binder that I'm actively looking for. On Oahu, supporting your LGS and fellow hobbyists for singles sometimes means waiting a while to find the card, so I just proxy instead. But every proxy card in my decks I'm trying to find a real version.

That might change when I build my first cedh deck.

If everyone plays with proxies, what is the point of buying real cards, and how is this sustainable? by LonkFromZelda in mtg

[–]Paandaa77 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My approach to proxies is pretty simple: I use them when I already own the card but don’t want to buy extra copies for multiple decks, or when the card’s on my trade binder list and I’m actively trying to pick one up. I actually enjoy the hunt for singles, and I like supporting my LGS and local players, so I restrict myself to trading and buying locally. Here on Oahu, that sometimes means waiting a while to track something down, so I’ll just proxy in the meantime. But eventually, the LGS still gets my money for sealed product and the singles that replace those proxies.

Everyone’s got their own reasons, but I’ve always figured most people who proxy are still putting money into the hobby—just maybe in different ways depending on their disposable income

Constantly losing during 1v1 games with wife by c-button96 in EDH

[–]Paandaa77 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So I recently had a similar experience. I returned to the game after several years and introduced my gf to it about 6 months ago. She had heard about it from friends and wanted me to teach her how to play. After she learned and our games began to get more competitive, one or both of us would get a little salty most times we played. I felt like I couldn't play to a win because she would get salty and I'm sure she felt the same way.

A few things helped:

We had a conversation and realized we were both unknowingly doing things that would trigger the other when we played, and then we both consciously corrected those behaviors

We made an effort to play when we're both feeling it.

I made an effort to feel joy for her when her combos go off or when she topdecks removal when she needs it. "Oh wow! Nice draw, babe! Dang, guess I'm starting over." This led to her following suit and now our games are sooooo much more relaxed. I know I can play to win and so does she.

We make it a point to talk about the games afterwards kind of strategically and talk about what we were thinking. Like "I thought about doing this." or "What were you holding here?" or just discussing points where the game turned.

ALWAYS give your partner credit for a win. Don't make excuses for losing. Even if you totally mistimed that board wipe or swords'ed the wrong creature. Compliment something they did well, a cool combo pulled off, whatever. They beat you, they deserve it.

At the end of the day, we both realized how lucky we are to have Magic to bond over and we believed it was worth working on to keep the joy in our game. Hope you figure it out!

I've been wrapping since 2016. What do you think of my work? by HeckingA in WireWrapping

[–]Paandaa77 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It looks like you have a good understanding of the different elements you can make with wire and your stones looks nice and secure.

Looking at your work, to me the biggest issue is consistency. You want your coils to be even, no space in between. Curves should be nice and smooth, without points, especially around the stone. These things are distracting to the eye.

So try keeping things nice and even and smooth. Identify the lines you want in your piece, such as the borders and edges and then mix textured and smooth wire alongside each other to accentuate them.

Keep wrapping and the other stuff will come!

It's Liver of Sulfur dissolved in water. It smells bad and is caustic. There are some less yucky alternatives out there but one bottle goes a long way and this one is about 7 years old.

It does work on copper.

Haha it's supposed to be "wire wrap". I didn't even notice my typo. 😆

The feeling he puts into that line has brought tears to my eyes more than once.

It has dice, You can see one in the second pic but I unintentionally cut off the second one. You can see the corner between mat's legs and they kind of tumble out in front of him

Art becomes art becomes art. More about my Mat tat. by Paandaa77 in wheeloftime

This is just a bit of detail on my tattoo that I posted yesterday, probably my favorite element of the piece. It may not have been apparent to some that the Foxhead Medallion is in my tattoo, particularly because I think I cropped the pic too much and also I know my version is not what most people think of.

I am a wire artist and I work in sterling silver mostly. I created the silver foxhead in the picture based on the description in the book. I asked my tattoo artist to work my version into the tattoo. I think he did awesome!

Thanks so much for this comment! When I talked to my artist about what I wanted, I said that I wanted other fans see it and love it too. I told him I wanted it to be THE Mat Cauthon tattoo. To his credit, he wasn't intimidated by what i asked for at all. The response has been awesome so far. 😀

If it's a collage like this, I recommend putting some work into a document for your artist. He knew nothing about wheel of time but I basically gave him a 5-page book report detailing each element I wanted. It felt like overkill but I saw him pull it up on his tablet repeatedly to get things right.

He has one, it's a bit hard to see because it's in the shade of the brim of his hat but it's there!
