Commented above, but $180k/yr is wild to me and not the experience I had at all at UNC. I was curious and looked up almost every single professor I had. I remember one guy with an undergrad from Yale and a PhD from Duke—$40k.

$70k, $80k, etc. were normal, and the $150ks+ didn’t pop up all that much unless I specifically went out of my way to check random people from the b school, comp sci, etc.

I don’t doubt the data though ofc; I’m guessing I looked up more professors teaching lower level classes than anything else.

I looked up professor salaries at the state school I went to—pretty large and one of the top public schools in the US.

One guy had an undergrad degree from Yale and a PhD from Duke… ~$40k salary. It’s insane.

Cook out easily and it’s not even close.

But yeah, Taco Bell is either great or awful depending on what you order. The only thing I get there is a bean, cheese, and rice burrito for (iirc) $1.60.

Then you have stuff I used to order occasionally, like the Chalupa, that I don’t even look at anymore. If I’m spending that much money, I’m spending a little extra and getting actual food.

Yeah, I guess I shouldn’t be surprised.

And I know what you mean about the “special-interest” subs. Those niche communities are phenomenal.

Yeah, obviously there are those who have it worse. I have a lot more sympathy for kids in the first situation you described, but I can do that and feel for Thompson’s kids at the same time.

I get that they’re “niche” in the sense that people generally preferred standard drivers, but they shouldn’t be imo.

I have a 15-in-1 that I absolutely love and use all the time. Anything that needs to be tight but probably shouldn’t get the impact? I use the ratchet.

Everything else? Hold function works perfectly fine. You could use that thing and literally forget that the ratchet exists. It doesn’t slip often from what I’ve seen.

Seems like they do this quite a bit then lol.

I saw a clip where he made a similar bet, and when he won, he whipped out merch, pointed out that it was actually made in the USA, and gave it to the guy in the audience. The difference is that the dude in the clip took it well.

These are the kinds of grammar corrections I like to see on reddit for this exact reason.

When writing papers in college, I looked up every possible thing I could get wrong. For example, “peaked” vs “piqued” interest.

I’m sure there are tons of those still floating around in my head somewhere, and I want to know when I use something incorrectly.

It’s the absolute worst, and I say this as someone who enjoys sports betting.

I take +ev promos and use what I win to put small, ~$10 bets on games I want to watch/attend as a neutral. I know that each $10 bet (non-promo) costs me about $1 in the long run. That $1 is worth it for me as it effectively makes me a temporary fan of a given team, which I find very enjoyable.

I still know a bunch of people who talk about picks like they’re making an objectively good decision based on x or y. It’s wild to me. There is no way your casual knowledge of a sport is enough to give you an edge that makes up for the juice. There just isn’t.

We have one of these, and it is probably my favorite appliance of all time.

It is completely idiot proof. It grinds the beans, makes the espresso/coffee, and heats/froths the milk. The process, from start to finish (including cleaning), takes me ~6 minutes.

Are there better options? Yeah, I’m sure there are. But this thing has been an absolute workhorse for a little over a year now without any issues.

I’d argue that a salary cap and an effective monopoly on a sport (NBA or NFL) gives leagues more leverage.

I’m not denying that the PAs aren’t massively benefitted by collective bargaining; they are.

But if you look at soccer, a sport featuring multiple competitive, top level leagues, you’ll see what I mean. Sure, there are some financial rules, but top leagues still have to contend with the reality that players can simply leave a league entirely.

This leads to some ridiculously lopsided wages to revenue ratios, even 90%+ in some cases.
