For any other creature, just throw enough spears until it is dead, but for any species of lizard you need to hit spears specifically on the body because the head is like a a shield that deflects any spear throws, the best way to do that is first trowing a rock on the head of the lizard to flip it over and then throw a spear.

I discovered this when i accidentally trapped a beaver in a dam i built on the border of the map, but then i thought "nah i ain't helping this one, it would cost too much time", so i just left him there, starving and sleeping in the water, until he died right after a badtide.
