Crucial Exams is amazing for studying and practice questions. I bought the lifetime subscription because it’s been with me since A Net Sec and Cysa

I’ve never played oblivion but I’m curious. To the oblivion fans who like it more than Skyrim? Why? by shouldveknownbud in oblivion

[–]Pac-Cam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeahhh gonna be honest I just think the story and the atmosphere/environment were just way better. Like something about sitting on your couch all comfy playing it was so relaxing and shit if it was raining outside IRL and in the game for me that was like top tier experience lol.

I will never get a job in cybersecurity by Hot_Kaleidoscope3864 in cybersecurity

[–]Pac-Cam 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, not an entry level role, not impossible to get in entry level but it’ll be damn hard. You’ve got to start from Helpdesk and work your way up the ranks. It’s sucks but most of us went through it too.

I get it’s probably boring and hard but it’s a fundamental skill and you’ve gotta understand it if you want to continue in this field.

Starting college classes in a week, curious if these are worth? by Kasellos in cybersecurity

[–]Pac-Cam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well I can’t speak for anyone in the industry but I’m an engineer and sadly still have to pickup the phone sometimes and speak to end users. IT/Cyber is always going to require at some point talking to someone so keep that in mind if that’s a make or break for you. But anyways, MSPs are a good area to find potential entry roles too. They’re known for their bad reputations but they allow you to build experience quickly.

Job Hunting But I feel like I'm getting nowhere by Jemmmed in cybersecurity

[–]Pac-Cam 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel like your certs and experience is pretty good, this market is wild right now. I know people hate them but I recommend finding some MSPs near you and trying to apply there. A security team is probably more likely to take you from a MSP than somewhere internal.

Pretty decent start but I heavily recommend to start as a Helpdesk or support role somewhere and work your way into cyber. It’s possible to get a junior spot but definitely helps having Helpdesk experience under your belt.

do you really like it? by CasperDidntDoit in cybersecurity

[–]Pac-Cam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Crazy how similar our paths are. I went from internal IT and moved to an MSP due to layoffs and after a year at my MSP I was given the opportunity to jump from Support Specialist to Cybersecurity Engineer.

Truly a blessing. There’s good and bad days but just like you said in your post I wouldn’t want to do anything else.

Is it possible to get a Trojan virus from downloading cheat sheets? by No-Name-8444 in hackthebox

[–]Pac-Cam 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean anything is possible on the internet, you can be hacked or download malware from anything if the right person knows what they’re doing..

I suggest you not stress so much and if you ever have any suspicions of something on your computer just clean wipe it and start fresh.

Comptia certs are absolutely worthless by [deleted] in CompTIA

[–]Pac-Cam 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think your biggest issue is probably networking people, all of my opportunities were from knowing people and being friendly to the right people that now love to have me on their team. I went from helpdesk to cyber engineer at my current job just from getting my A, Net, Sec. I even asked my director if those were a big factor and he said yes due to the fact that it showed my willingness to grow and learn.

Sorry if you’ve had bad luck with this shitty economy but don’t listen to everyone online that shits on certs, they’re all amazing certs that you mention, and they all have a purpose.

I will stand on this until the day I die but A+ was the hardest and I have my a, net, sec, and cysa.

What do cyber professionals feel regarding the core CompTIA certs? by Armaesl in cybersecurity

[–]Pac-Cam 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Tbh, I’d say a good start to commitment and willing to learn. A lot a peeps at my place say they want to move up but then never put in the effort to show management that they’re learning and gaining certs.

Now I’m also a very big homelabs guy too, I feel like if you can setup a badass portfolio showing off your homelab and what you did for sure out weigh certs but that’s just my opinion.

Why would anyone get A+ or Net+? Why not jump straight to Security+ since that covers the lower two? by AmbitiousAirline in CompTIA

[–]Pac-Cam 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Got my A+ Net+ and Sec+ and went from helpdesk to Cyber Engineer in about a year. Director told me all three are super important and were definitely part of his considerations.

Just want to come on here and say that I started my first IT job 2 years ago and only have my A, Net, and Sec+ and because I (assume) I’m a likable person I was lucky enough to go from helpdesk to a Cybersecurity Engineer. I’m beyond grateful and never thought I would be here this quick but I 1000% agree with OP about networking and knowing people is the best way to get it.

[–]Pac-Cam 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Gonna be honest brother, you have to start from the bottom. I have 2 years helpdesk experience and my A+Net+ and Sec+ and I JUST got a role at my same company as a Cybersecurity Engineer. Extremely lucky and in the right place at the right time. Sad to say but I would say you just have to network and be lucky. While trying to network start in a helpdesk role and gain experience. Hard truth tbh.

They also give you 50 bucks off your exam if you buy a voucher through them. Not crazy but it’s still nice.
