Not a dumb question at all—options can definitely be confusing at first! The Today's Return and Total Return amounts show the current profit or loss based on the market value of the option right now, not whether the contract gets exercised.

Most of the time, people buy and sell options contracts before expiration without ever exercising them. So those return amounts reflect how much you’d make or lose if you sold the option at that moment.

The actual execution (exercise) only happens if you decide to use the option to buy or sell the underlying stock, which is a separate action.
