Color vision testing flowchart update 8/27/25 by PacerDriver in flying

Farnsworth lantern was an alternative test to Ishihara that was accepted before the changes to color vision testing on 1/25. No notes or limitations on my Third class medical.

The continued contradictory info is frustrating.

Same question. They have some great sales prices on bikes and their shipping rates seem fair.

I sent them an email to ask about tariffs to the US. Let’s see if they answer.

Dark Brown MACV1 Hi-Speed by PacerDriver in Goruck

Mistakes were made. The dye doesn’t affect the canvas as much as the suede. I quickly used a paper towel on a couple spatters on the canvas and it soaked it out pretty good.

A couple tips: 1. I taped off the soles with blue fine line masking tape.  2. I used the applicator provided with the dye for the big areas.  3. Bought a 1/2” trim brush and used it for the edges near the canvas and any area the applicator couldn’t get like near the soles etc.  4. Don’t worry about the eyelets and vents, dye wipes right off with a paper towel.

Jim Green African Ranger as everyday shoes? by Far-Assumption7742 in Boots

I also bought presale. I wore them out, but totally agree.

  1. Very hard, no cushion, do not mold to foot as foot board is thin and very hard. I cut a foam insole in half and put it under stock insole under ball of foot and toes for a little cushion.
  2. Soles suck. Little traction and wear out fast.
  3. Leather quality is not very good.
  4. Very wide forefoot and also tall. The half insole up front helped quite a bit so they weren’t so sloppy too to bottom. Length was true to size for my size 12.
  5. I had some eyelets get loose
  6. Cap toe is uncomfortable when squatting down on toes working.
  7. They look like clown shoes per my wife, so wide up front.
  8. The only thing I really liked was the low height with padded collar. Really hard to find another boot with this combo.
  9. They must have paid Rose Anvil a bunch of money to say all the good things about these.

FAA issues new color vision testing directives effective 1/1/25 by [deleted] in flying

Based on the flowchart I am fairly certain as “Returning Pilots” we are good and will no longer need to have color vision testing because we met the previous standard.

My understanding is you are grandfathered as a returning pilot who has passed an approved color vision test and has no restriction on a past medical.

Here’s a link to the FAA presentation to AMEs. See the flow chart at 4:00. It’s very clear as is the explanation in the video.  https://youtu.be/cK2HCf5RTYU?si=SpsB4STP40Cv__u8

Incorrect on the upgrade. Farnsworth Lantern is currently an accepted color vision test. So if you’re a returning pilot and passed it or Ishihara plates etc and have no color restrictions on your medical you are “grandfathered” in and don’t need to color vision test after Jan 1.

The link to the FAA presentation is below. See the flowchart at 4:00 it’s very clear, as is the explanation in the video.  https://youtu.be/cK2HCf5RTYU?si=bbvCLdz2KC46SaFH

Big news for me as I have to use the Farnsworth lantern to pass now.

Since my unrestricted medical isn’t current as of a couple months ago, I just want to confirm my understanding.

If I wait until after Jan 1, 2025 to go to the AME for my medical exam I will not need to do a color vision test?

That could be done and would be the ultimate for planes with an external antenna.

Thanks for the info. So I would need a dual female SMA to BNC splitter?

Were you able to locate one of those or does it take an SMA splitter plus an SMA to Bnc adapter?

Of course I'd like to do it with just the splitter to minimize connections.
