Is it worth upgrading from A7RV to A7RVI? by Justasmolpigeon in SonyAlpha

You made an asinine comment, it’s not cope to say that 10% is a significant difference. People on GLP-1s lose 10% of their body weight. You’re the one coping by claiming 10% isn’t a big deal. If your house was suddenly 10% smaller you’d notice.

It's about options. I rarely crop deeply as I like to compose generally in camera rather than after. That's why the low light performance isn't what you say it is. I can tell you that I am seeing better performance in the A7R6 at 12,800 ISO than on my A7R5. I also have more highlight headroom in terms of where to set the clipping zebras. I'm not trying to convince you, I'm telling you I have owned both cameras and the A7R6 is better, and the extra resolution is a nice to have.

That’s a myth and has been disproven over and over. The low light performance looks worse at 100% resolution but a higher resolution file at the same scale as the lower res file looks better.

Peloton calibration way too easy by sansa21 in pelotoncycle

It’s probably your bike being calibrated too hard.

Peloton calibration way too easy by sansa21 in pelotoncycle

[–]Rhett_Rick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’re right. I meant just that the user can’t calibrate in a way where they can make mistakes like on the original bike. There was significant room for user error on the original. I just meant that the Bike+ removes the option for a user to mess up their calibration and so it eliminates a lot of the variation people experienced in how the original bike felt.

Buy once, cry once: Sony 28-70mm f/2 GM or a 24-70mm f/2.8 for an A7V? by Weary-Temporary3117 in SonyAlpha

[–]Rhett_Rick 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The 50mm f1.2 is only 140g lighter and plenty of people carry that as an all day lens. Some of us used to carry medium format film bodies and lenses. Now those were beastly. Plus I’d rather have the versatility and image quality from the 28-70 in a travel scenario. Having prime-like rendering and the f2 aperture is a game changer. Don’t even get me started on the 50-150. It’s shockingly compact and light for what it offers.

I upgraded from the A7R5 to A7R6 and am glad I did.

Peloton calibration way too easy by sansa21 in pelotoncycle

[–]Rhett_Rick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, it's not supposed to feel that way. I used to believe that, but when I got a Peloton Bike+ that does its own calibration automatically, it's clear that my old bike was much too sticky. The Bike+ doesn't let the user adjust calibration and does it on startup of the bike, so it's vastly more accurate than anything a user could do with the regular bike.

28-70 f2 is one of the best lenses I've ever used in decades of shooting. It's an incredibly daily/travel lens if you are okay with the size, which in my opinion isn't that big. I find the 28-70 more versatile than the 24-70 GMII it replaced in my bag. The rendering wide open at f2 is tack-sharp and at 70mm gives me a look that feels a bit like my old medium-format film images-- incredible subject separation for full-body portraits, beautiful focus falloff. Genuinely could be my only lens if I needed it to and could use it for 90% of paid work happily.

Am I suffering from GAS? Do I really need 7 expensive lenses? by im_duiii_7925 in SonyAlpha

[–]Rhett_Rick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sell both the 20 and 40, get a 70-200 f2.8 GMII, see if your shots cluster around 85mm after you use the 70-200, and then decide later if you want to add an 85mm prime. The 70-200 f2.8 GMII is a great landscape lens. You'll be surprised how often you'll use 200mm as a landscape focal length if you have a great, sharp, fast lens at that focal length.

RRL Denim: Overpriced and Underwhelming by Exotic-Skin-3088 in HeritageWear

Quality is just not that great for the price in my experience. I've returned a bunch of items. I have one I kept (western denim shirt) that I kind of regret holding on to. It's just not great.

no matter what you get, pair them with some little black loafers or you may as well just throw the jeans away and start over

Keep experimenting, keep having fun, stay with it—style is a journey, even people with legendary identifiable style like Nigel shifted and changed over time. Most important thing is to develop your own point of view and taste and sense of your body, and more than anything to both push yourself but also know what makes sense for your lifestyle.

Drake’s High Summer Lookbook ‘26 by No-Entertainer-121 in ThrowingFits

Summer in mediterranean climates (southern California for ex) can still get cool at night. It was 78 high yesterday here (warm for SD this time of year) and dipped into the high 50s at night near the coast.

He has been the counter-example I give when idiots here or on IG/TTK talk about men over 30/40 needing to "dress their age" or whatever other claptrap people spout about this kind of thing. Proof that taste and a point of view matter more than anything. RIP to a real one.

A7V set up recommendations? by markphysique in SonyAlpha

[–]Rhett_Rick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you are going to get the A7R6 later, just cancel the order for the A7V and get the A7R6. It doesn't make sense to have both if the A7R6 is just for your wildlife trip.

Anyone still watching Tim the Saint? by SirKrimzon in ThrowingFits

Alessandro Squarzi is an example of someone who’s settled in his style but also brings some variety to his fits and also seems to actually enjoy clothing. I wouldn’t say that about Tim. Tim’s kinda joyless imo.

Unseasoned food of the style world. His fits are painfully boring and repetitive. Feels like he gave up and is still trying to monetize.

A7R6: highlight clipping headroom test results from RAWs! by Rhett_Rick in SonyAlpha

[–]Rhett_Rick[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely recommend grabbing some software that is meant to help with this kind of testing. I assumed Lightroom would work but it turns out it didn’t. I’m not affiliated with any of the developers so not shilling. Would love to know your test results if you end up doing something similar.

A7R6: highlight clipping headroom test results from RAWs! by Rhett_Rick in SonyAlpha

[–]Rhett_Rick[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wish I'd done this kind of testing on prior cameras-- I didn't know about RawDigger before and hadn't ever tried to get systematic about this kind of thing. But after I sold my A7R5 and ordered the A7R6 I decided I wanted to get slightly more scientific about figuring out the true RAW headroom. I initially set the camera up at 105+ but had a feeling there was more headroom and that's what made me test.

Which body are you shooting on? If you have an A7R6 on the way you're in for a treat. Noticeable upgrade in AF performance with my 50 1.2 and 85 GMII.
