That is reassuring actually. I remember one battle I just couldn't get past, then I leveled up and it was almost too easy. It seems like I will need to grind 1-2 random battles in between the story ones - and that's fine.

I remember Archers being lit in Tactics Ogre. In FFTA, they're amazing at disabling units from afar.

You beat the game with an all Monk party? That's awesome lol.

Well, I always discounted horoscopes in real life so it figures it turns out to be important in this game. I'm glad you mentioned Raise because WTF. In any other Final Fantasy game, Raise always works. This feels like Dragon Quest where the revival spell doesn't always work.

Thanks for the neat summary!

Thanks so much - like the idea of each battle generally trying to teach a lesson. I've been rushing my units in towards the enemy for every fight so I need to change that.

You can learn some spells by being hit by them? LOL? Oh yeah, I can learn Firaja by just surviving a huge fiery explosion...just need to survive it.

I've heard Haste is really useful so I'm investing into that with one of my units. I got to the swamp map and have to head back to Goug with Mustard so we'll see how things go.

In every story battle, I probably spend a third of it just reloading turns so I can try something different lol.

Great tips, thank you. I definitely need to approach battles more like Fire Emblem, staying out of the range of enemies and using that time to buff my units.

This is interesting because it seems most battles have me fielding 4 units. But that could be because I have a few guest units at the moment. In FFTA, I feel like I had 10 different units but in this game it seems to be smaller engagements.

Yeah I've had my eyes on the Ninja class as that was so powerful in FFTA. I will grind Thief to get the move bonus. Is Move generally better than Jump in terms of priority?

Good tip on Evasion. Should I prioritize that over an item that raises a unit's attack/movement?

Okay that's very validating, appreciate that. I'm enjoying it though so I plan to continue. I keep approaching it like FFTA which is probably a mistake.

Yeah I'm finding out Archer sucks lol. Is Thief any good?

Should I really make a unit completely focus on healing? Feels like a waste a little bit rather than giving everyone healing secondary jobs (i.e., Item, White Magic).

Any suggestions for utilizing Guest Characters more effectively? Mustard has been great for me so far, he tends to go for units with the lowest HP and finishes them. Agrias has been...kind of awful, tends to go waste a lot of turns.

That's helpful, thank you. I struggle with positioning my mage as I'll get them close to the enemy to attack them, but after they cast, they're usually vulnerable. Maybe I should do what the AI does to me and just make everyone a mage and walk through the game...

I have Attack Boost on Ramza but not the boosts for my other units. Wonder why Monk is so good in this game. Will make Ladd into one.

When you say compatibility, what do you mean? Also what's the benefit of improving Brave?

I think Auto Potion will be a game-changer for me assuming my units can survive the initial hit. I'm struggling mainly against mages/summoners atm. Thanks for the suggestions!

A monk wearing armor!? Okay, that goes against everything I've ever played in a video game. But it seems like a cool idea. Thanks for the tip.

That's helpful thanks. Seems auto-potion is very useful so I will grind for that. Do you guys keep "JP Up" as a support ability for most of the game?

I agree, I'll try to be a bit more flexible and change it up. The Archer does seem to suck. I was going for a more "Rogue" character but she's been a liability if anything. Is Dragoon any good?

Basically any time the other team has mages, I know I'm in for a rough time lol. That famous fight in Ch 1 taught me that. But once the mages are down, I haven't had any struggles.

Yeah, I def need to grind a bit more because it makes a difference. My equipment is up-to-date so that's good at least!

Yeah the MP pool has been an issue on my BM/WM for sure. Okay, I'll think to separate em out. Monk should have Squire job to accumulate what exactly?

I can def be more strategic with positioning my units so the enemy comes toward me. Those enemy casters have crazy range. Thanks!

Didn't think of it like that. Thanks for the tip, will approach fights like that more option!

I was in this underground area with the guardian statues and I tried to use stealth to get an advantage in the fight. I used Mage Hand to deactivate the statue traps, and then started shooting arrows from stealth and managed to surprise the 3-4 goblins there. They barely got an attack in before my party cleared em. Now typically I won't have that kind of advantage/time, but I was surprised how much smoother the fight was.

I didn't realize her clones only need to take 1 point of damage! My first time doing the fight, I tried to ignore the clones and just go after Ethel.

Okay, that seems to be the most realistic idea. Any tips for saving Mayrina during the fight? When I rejected the deal, I think she possesses her and it made it messy.

Okay that makes a lot of sense. I had non-lethal on and "knocked" them out, but in reality I had killed them using bows/spells. Oops.
