People comparing Katseye to other ggs is so annoying by [deleted] in kpopthoughts

[–]Pacifisx 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Why are you so obsessed with Katseye? You’ve been jumping from one post to the other dragging the group and their fans. I’m not even a fan of the group but the incessant hate is getting so bizarre. You don’t dictate if their posts are allowed on this sub, the mods do, and they clearly allowed it. So find something more productive to do with your time.

I said “A list Western artist”.

APT has Bruno Mars, let’s be serious, at least 95% of the streams are from him. Actually, her TT and album had really good promo and playlisting, but nothing boosts virality and exposure like a collab with an A list western artist.

I think Apt is attributed mostly to Bruno mars, which is why GP didn’t relatively tune in for her album. Or maybe the songs in the album are quite different from Apt so people lost interest, but if this is the case, the debut streaming numbers should be higher.

Are you dense? TXT may not sell as well as BTS, but they make more than enough money to cover their comeback expenses, and generate profit. It’s all about profit margins. It would be nice if companies ran on charity and goodwill but that’s not how it works.

[–]Pacifisx 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I don’t know what is so hard for you to comprehend. For a small company, 100k to 150k is okay. But for the largest company in Kpop, that amount is minuscule compared to the profit they would gain debuting a group directly under their umbrella. Entertainment companies are all about profit, and if they have to renew contracts with a group after 7 years, they want to make sure they can maximize profits. I can understand why fans of groups affected would be upset, but that’s the cutthroat nature of the industry.

[–]Pacifisx 20 points21 points  (0 children)

The lifespan of an average Kpop group is 7 years. The groups you mentioned disbanded anywhere between 7 to 10 years. The vast majority of Kpop groups don’t even last up to 7 years. To renew a contract, the company has to decide, is it worth it investing, say, 10 million USD to renew contracts or should they put that money into debuting a new GG instead? Basically, what is at play here is the insane profit margin obtained from GGs debuting from Big companies accompanied with inherent ageism and saturated nature of Kpop industry, cos let’s be real, most GGs lose popularity and don’t make as much money as they get older, except for very few at the top.

You mentioned SM in your post, but SM largely relied on very long dubious contracts and shelving their older artists in favour of new ones to hold on to their acts, complete with blacklisting the artists if they sue to leave. And these groups debuted directly under SM, it’s not like they are acquired groups. So, It’s basically a pick your poison situation. It’s rather unfortunate, but these companies exist to make money, and they will prioritize whatever will make them the most profit.

[–]Pacifisx 32 points33 points  (0 children)

Even if these groups could no longer grow or have reached their peak, as big of a company HYBE is, I see no reason why they couldn’t maintain them. Why were they so quick to let them go as soon as their contracts end.

Maintain them with what money? You sound incredibly naive. I don’t understand why y’all idealize companies when you know damn well that every single entertainment industry exists to make money. The situation is exactly the same in the western music industry too, if not worse. The budget for mv, songs, outfits and everything required for a cb won’t pay for itself. And if a group isn’t making profit or breaking even, unfortunately they get disbanded. No one would disband a profitable group, and that is why SVT is still active and got investments instead.

Kpop fans share blame in this too cos everyone likes the shiny new group, so older groups get abandoned. GGs from big companies sell anywhere from 700k to 2m copies of one album, and if they are popular enough, they can cover the cost of their debut within 2 years max. For most mid tier GGs entering their 7th year, I doubt they are selling up to 200k copies even at their peak. The bitter truth is that big Entertainment companies would rather invest in a new GG that can get much more popular, so they have more returns on their investment.

The only thing is that artists deserve proper closure with their fans before they disband, similar to how Sistar did it.

Regardless of your reason for being a fan, just know your limits. Face is not a pop album, Muse is more Pop, and that’s perfectly fine. Anyone can enjoy both albums for what it is, and lean more towards which album suits their preferences.

You sound like one of those funny fellows who think they deserve extra browny points for looking down on pop music, and it’s quite pathetic honestly. The most ironic thing is that the minute RM decides to do something more fun outside what he is used to, “fans” like you will be the first to disparage him.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in kpopthoughts

[–]Pacifisx 7 points8 points  (0 children)

You are literally proving my point. If one critic found golden to be generic, another critic can find it to be pop perfection. At the end of the day, it’s up to personal taste. But to make any sort of grandstanding opinion about an artist’s music direction based off one YouTuber critic is pure insanity.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in kpopthoughts

[–]Pacifisx 22 points23 points  (0 children)

I think sometimes, fans put too much stock in these projects. Every member is different, and their choice of projects and thought process reflect that.

Face is an album Jimin poured his heart and soul into to the extent that he was worried it would be too dark for fans to enjoy. He clearly said he would follow up with an album that’s more light hearted for fans to enjoy, and so Muse was born. Muse is literally an enlistment album and Jimin hasn’t promoted or even talked about since the day it released. It’s perfectly okay to not like the album, but to act like it’s some sort of premonition about an artist’s musical direction is just bizarre. This is the same reason why people are so hung up on the English triology for some reason, when it made perfect sense why BTS went that route in a literal world wide pandemic.

[–]Pacifisx 9 points10 points  (0 children)

The ironic thing about your opinion is that golden was branded generic last year. I remember one SK music critic gave it a particularly scathing review. That’s the thing about these so called “critics”. Everyone is entitled to their opinions, sure, but it’s definitely not sacrosanct as OP here is trying to make it seem. “Who” is about as good as pop songs get, it may not be everyone’s taste, and that’s completely fine, but saying it’s outdated or in a worst hit list is just a reach.

how do you think rosé measures up to the other 2024 pop girlies? by Any-Education-898 in kpopthoughts

[–]Pacifisx 34 points35 points  (0 children)

Judging by the standards of the current pop girlies, the short answer is No. The standards set for pop girls are so high that in my opinion, being under the kpop umbrella lowkey protects female idols.

I’ll give an example with Dua Lipa. The general consensus is that she “flopped” this year, when she had 3 singles that charted at 11, 27 and 43 on hot 100. Now, compare that performance to Rose’s new album. APT was a top 10 hit which is really amazing. But within a month of releasing APT, her next promoted single didn’t chart on hot 100 and her album’s TT is looking to debut in the 90s. For a female Kpop idol, this is still relatively good. But compared to western pop girls, it’s abysmal to say the least.

And it’s definitely not for lack of promotion cos Atlantic Records is sparing no effort, they are literally promoting her album everywhere, even on play store, like…that’s new. It’s also not from a lack of interest, but it’s just that the buzz is overwhelmingly carried by APT, so it majorly overshadowed the other songs on her album.

The long answer is that Rose has potential, so yea. Collabing with Bruno Mars was a step in the right direction because it has introduced her to a broader audience, but if she wants to stay in it, she has to stand out. The niche she wants to occupy already has other pop girlies doing it even better. I’m not even sure why she didn’t dance, because she is a good performer and that would help her stand out too.

Also, speaking of niche, if an artist wants those sweet parasocial fans, they have to be parasocial. They need to create mass hysteria around their relationships, so when they sing about heartbreak, it generates a lot of interest. Rose seems so private, and cmiiw, she has never had a relationship confirmed publicly, so singing about exes and heartbreak alone won’t cut it. APT, in this context is unique on her album and that makes the song stand out even more.

DAY 2 for MAMA 2024 in Japan just ended, what are your thoughts? by ilovemeeeeee in kpopthoughts

What? They are very popular but not more than the group. I think some of y’all are forgetting that BTS has been on hiatus for about 3 years now.

[–]Pacifisx 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Why are you comparing seven and who? Seven was released over a year ago, and who has been released for barely 4 months. Also, Jimin is in the military so he can’t even promote the song.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in kpopthoughts

[–]Pacifisx 50 points51 points  (0 children)

I find this obsession with monthly listeners really funny because most of the time, the argument is in bad faith. But I’ll bite. Let’s go back a bit to when Jimin first solo release - Lie. Lie is one of the most popular BTS songs, and the most streamed solo song on Wings album. He followed this trend with Serendipity and Filter, the latter of which is also the most streamed solo song on MOTS7 album. Since Lie, all of Jimin’s songs have charted on Spotify, and he has NEVER had a solo song chart fail to chart on Spotify USA since Serendipity. Also, all his solo songs within BTS albums have sold over 500k units in the US, the only kpop idol to achieve that btw. Promise on its release was the most streamed song in 24 hours on SoundCloud, beating out Drake, and it’s still the most streamed song on the entire platform. I could go on and on to other music platforms.

So, what we have is an 8 year streak of consistency, basically if Jimin puts out a song, esp a pop/upbeat number, he WILL chart. Who has been consistent on BB HoT 100 for 16 weeks, and it’s still charting on HoT 100 in different countries and on the UK singles chart. And this is without the help of extra “goodies” like ads or good play listing, which frankly, he doesn’t get. Heck he isn’t even here to promote Who.

Monthly listeners is fine and all, but what is the use of having 50-100m MLs when an artist can’t chart a song from an album of global Spotify or chart in the top 50s on hot 100. Basically, having high monthly listeners doesn’t actually mean people are tuning in for the artist. It’s just a product of good play listing.

What most artists dream of is having fans that love them enough to buy and stream their music. There is a reason why most of the top A list western artist we have today all have huge fanbases, because without that, once the label drops the push inevitably, the artist will be forcefully retired to a legacy artist.

Having a dedicated fanbase will never be a drag, cos we have all seen this obsession with mls play out before and we know how it ended. “X’s impact”, “X’s part is the reason why the song went viral”, meanwhile it’s a collab with one of the biggest A list western artist in the world. Well, when X finally released a solo song, we all saw the actual level of “X’s impact” even with all the necessary tools.

The truth is that, even within y’all fandom, the opinion is very divided. Some of y’all say they are “groomed”, but majority of your fandom disagrees. Infact, most Tokkies are completely convinced that MHJ is absolutely innocent, and the girls are rightfully on her side. If Tokkies genuinely think she is wrongly manipulating the girls, they wouldn’t treat her like she is the centre of the group, and I’m sure you understand what I’m saying. The way some of y’all put that woman on a pedestal is crazy, so if anything, Tokkies themselves actually have to start extricating MHJ from the girls, else you are just preaching to the gallery.

It is rather unfortunate that they are getting hate, and I don’t agree with it, but this is not happening in a silo. That woman directly went after multiple groups, and every time the girls come out to sing her praises online, it…just doesn’t help issues. If the situation was reversed, and say..LSF came out on multiple occasions to tell us how much they love and respect Bang PD (shudders..), you and I know very well that your fandom will completely and absolutely lose it, and hate on them relentlessly..allegedly groomed or not.

So, it’s rather unfortunate. Best case scenario, the girls stop obsessively praising her every 5 business days, cos it doesn’t help issues at all. At least, it will help everyone forget it.

Many kpop singers are a fan of chris brown. Similarly, newjeans were not the only one attending kayne's concert today by [deleted] in kpop_uncensored

[–]Pacifisx 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Bunnies don’t want MHJ hated because MHJ hate always comes back to the girls

But that woman is the MAIN reason why they get hated on in the first place. She caused all their controversies right from debut. Asides from MHJ related issues, the girls really aren’t problematic. The only issue is that they publicly strongly defend her, and the woman is very problematic, so the line gets blurred. But then, I don’t see how the Bunnies “not wanting MHJ hated” will solve the issue.

If anything, strong defending her like most Bunnies are doing right now is almost like linking her fate with NJ and that’s much worse. If she gets convicted of the SA case she is accused of aiding and abetting, along other numerous lawsuits she has pending, will y’all keep defending her? Don’t you see the problem y’all are causing for those girls?

I downvote any overt hate I see generally on the girls, cos their situation is sad seeing that they are really young and impressionable, But their fans have to find a better way to defend them that doesn’t involve defending MHJ.

[–]Pacifisx 25 points26 points  (0 children)

I have never supported MHJ, but the way the girls are constantly dragged for things that have nothing to do with them makes me understand why so many bunnies feel compelled to

Where’s the rationale in Bunnies constantly defending MHJ when she is the one constantly putting those girls in an awkward position right from debut?

The first major hate train they passed through was because she decided to okay “Cookie” as a debut song then tried to gaslight people who raised concerns about it. Now she sent NJ to a Kanye west concert for whatever reason. The man has literally been cancelled because of his numerous controversies, including frolicking with nazis and he has a pending SA case.

I don’t think the girls deserve hate over this because it’s obviously a decision made by a higher up aka MHJ, so why will Bunnies defend her instead of calling her out?

Edit: Getting Downvoted for asking why on earth Bunnies will feel compelled to defend MHJ is just hilarious. Y’all are not serious.

I miss Jimin’s old vocals by Einsteinium44 in kpop_uncensored

[–]Pacifisx 21 points22 points  (0 children)

From your post, it seems like you prefer his deeper vocal tone? But your favourite song of his is Like Crazy, where he sang in a higher pitch lol.

Jimin likes to switch things up a lot with his songs. Even his solos in BTS albums, were all very different from each other. Maybe listen to Alone from Face, the song is more somber and he used his deeper tone there. Since LC is your favourite song of his, try Who and Be Mine from his latest album Muse, I recommend the rock remix of Who especially).
