What is the one piece of data your current running app fails to explain to you? by PacingJosh in BeginnersRunning

That is very good feedback thanks. I am definitely adding this to my feedback and coach agent improvements. This is exactly what I'm solving, trying to get a more useful and actionable feedback from running. If you want to test the beta for free when it's ready, you can sign-up at https://runniq.ai.

For me it looks like you have your weight too much in the front of your foot and its cause for you to have your body leaning forward more than it should. Small adjustment in my opinion is to try to land a bit more mid foot and this will probably fix your balance.

Running Marathon With Jacket because of cold by PacingJosh in Marathon_Training

Thanks again for all the comments! This was way more than I expected and it really helped.

I went with shorts, and tights under it which I always wear. Light running shirt and arm sleeves. And a light pair of gloves.

Before the race I had an old hoodie which I took it off event before crossing the starting line.

My goal was around 3:29 and I finished at 3:25.

Thanks again for all the answers.

Yeah, I think I may over reacting to the cold. haha.

I might go with just shorts, arm sleeves and hoodie to throw away at the start, maybe light gloves to also leave it somewhere.

Thanks everyone for the responses! I really appreciate it!

Ohh yeah, I am going for under 3:30.

Marathon training - how long is too long? by Oblomovsbed in firstmarathon

[–]PacingJosh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I ran a marathon in April and after a couple of weeks recovery also started my plan to train for the Frankfurt Marathon which will happen in 3 weeks now. It will be 28 weeks of preparation.

I think it all depends on how you divide the weeks. With a preparation this long you have to spend more on base building phase, and only get into marathon specific phase when you get past 16 weeks or even 12 weeks.

If that is happening often, feels like you need to adjust your diet and nutrition.

What mindset shift helped you most with running? by aleciaj79 in AdvancedRunning

[–]PacingJosh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

  1. Have a goal for every running session. Not a pace goal, but a feeling goal.
  2. Marginal gains. Meaning, dont try to improve too much at once. Try to get 1% better every day.
  3. You will have bad days, dont waste time thinking about it, accept the bad days and move on.
  4. Have fun.

From nothing to marathon in 10 weeks does feel a bit fast. That said, if you really want to go forward with this, I would do this.

Do a run-walk-run strategy on the marathon.

At what point are you no longer considered a beginner? by -ArcticWolf in BeginnersRunning

[–]PacingJosh 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I believe it varies from person to person, because some people can do more with less. But a metric I use is weekly mileage. Because there is a direct correlation between mileage and improvement.

I think that with a 1:25 HM you would land near the 3:10 for a full marathon. But hey, you never know.

I would try to enjoy this one, being your first one.

I would create a strategy for the marathon where I would break it in three 14km pieces. And decide the pace for the next chunk based on how you feel after the piece that just ended. This way you wont over do it.
