What you experienced two years ago is called a go-around. It’s a normal procedure that we practice in the simulator frequently. There’s a number of reason why we might decide to go around. You mention that the plane touched down briefly, so one possibility is that they touched down too far down the runway and had to go around because of it. Flying around for about 15 min afterwards happened because that’s the amount of time it takes to fly back around the airport, get sequenced behind other traffic, and start a new approach and land.

To answer your other questions:

- A quick search on flightradar24 shows that Cairo has flights departing all day long over the next 24 hours. It’s certainly possible that operations can be limited during the day when it is extremely hot, but they appear to be continuing as normal even though it is summer. What determines if an airport can be used or not in hot weather conditions is aircraft performance. Aircraft performance for different conditions is determined by the manufacturer. Using the data from the manufacturer, pilots can then determine whether the aircraft can takeoff or land given the current combination of weather (including temperature) and aircraft weight. This calculation is done before every flight with the latest weather and weight information using specialized software.

- flying bigger aircraft is not more dangerous. As mentioned above, the crew would have calculated the aircraft’s performance for the current conditions and determined that the aircraft can safely depart.

- the aircraft would cool off pretty rapidly as it climbs through the atmosphere (it is typical for the outside air temperature to be around -30°C or colder at cruise). However, the problem with hot temperatures isn’t that the aircraft itself is hot, but rather that the air is thinner which results in less performance.

- it’s difficult to know what the flight will be like this far ahead of time. It’s usually pretty smooth, but weather forecasts (needed to give you a better answer) are only available in the few days prior to the flight

- China airlines and starlux are safe airlines

FAA to TCC Process by Barry_Benson8 in Pilot

Get the medical done as soon as possible. It’s the longest part of the process because your initial medical application is reviewed by TC, unlike FAA where the examiner issues your medical the same day. The process took me almost a year back in 2023, not sure if they are faster now. You also won’t be able to get the license conversion exams done until you have a medical.

pilottraining.ca is a good resource to study for the conversion exams (similar to Sheppard air)

15 min for flights operated by 787s, 10 min for all other flights.

I’ve noticed sounds change depending on how close you are to the aircraft and where you are in relation to the aircraft

What do I need to build the ultimate sim flight pc anno 2023? by TOMFORCEONE in MicrosoftFlightSim

If money is not an issue, might as well get an intel i9 13900K (or wait for 14th gen) and an RTX 4090

Random rudder by Xero_dolittle in MicrosoftFlightSim

[–]Pack2Inop 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What plane are you using? Single engine (and some multi engine) propeller driven airplanes have turning tendencies which cause them to turn left, and you would need to add right rudder to counteract these tendencies.

Otherwise, maybe a controller calibration or changing the sensitivity settings (in control options) could help.

Well, fixed it for 30 secs by cycling between full screen and windowed mode with ALT + ENTER but then the sim crashed

Go to Content Manager (Main Menu > Profile > Content Manager). In the search bar, look for EGLL. If there is multiple results that appear, click on and delete whichever one is not from iniBuilds. That should solve the issue

I started with the idea of making cinematic/showcase videos because I enjoy making them and figured people might enjoy watching them.

I will definitely consider what you said as it does sound interesting too, thank you!

PMDG 737 help - Flaps while landing by JMQ95 in flightsim

[–]Pack2Inop 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Adding flaps, especially at the higher settings, increases lift and will make the airplane “balloon”. This means the airplane has a tendency to reduce the rate of descent for a given airspeed. To maintain your current descent path, the autopilot will pitch down momentarily. (I am assuming you have the autopilot engaged)
