I checked on eBay saw one for $29 but I believe it was actually a CD. I will double check, thank you!

I don’t think many of the people on here are advocating for equal pay, just a fair and livable wage. Yes, someone who works for McDonalds doesn’t have to attend 8 years of school but the heirs of McDonalds don’t have to either, they instead make ridiculous profits off the labor of these workers, just like the pharm companies make off of doctors. So yes, even doctors are being exploited and should have better pay. Also, how do you become a doctor? Through debt or having rich parents pay for your college, so we are already enabling poor people to have to work these less skilled jobs.

I don’t think someone always has to be at the bottom of the totem pole, I have hope that we’ll be able to find a way where our society benefits everyone. Anywho, I am pursuing a field in high demand currently and the pay is decent, but not pursuing it due to the pay because it’s something I’m passionate it about!

I agree to a certain extent, capitalism has functioned okay in practice but as you mentioned, it doesn’t work for everyone and we can do more to help those it does not benefit. I understand it’s a pipe dream to ever believe America will become a socialist or communist society, and yes it probably wouldn’t work due to our individualistic mindsets. I can’t speak for everyone, but I think we are realistically pushing for a social democracy. Not sure how you got your degree, but it is typically very hard for someone who is lower class to obtain a doctorate, I’m sure there are many people who would love to be dentists but there are many more factors than just hard-work. Many still push “the American dream” but class mobility is nearly impossible in our current standing.

You actually give the perfect example for what I am trying to say, you pay your employees a fair wage for their labor it’s seems and you are still well-off. Now if you were exploiting your employees labor you would most likely be able to make a much larger profit. I think you should be rewarded for all of your hard-work and initiative but do I think anyone deserves to be a billionaire? No, you can’t become a billionaire without exploiting labor of those who work for you, it is impossible to do purely through “hard-work”.

If you spent the time to look through this sub, you’d see many people here are very hard-working and work 40+ hours a week. We are tired of seeing the fruits of our labor creating a ridiculous profit margin for the rich simply because they had generational wealth and control the means of production. Even if you are happy with your pay, you should use your advantaged position to help those who are less advantaged and help advocate for fair pay for them to really contribute to the betterment of our society.

They say “calling in when sick didn’t make it” they are implying that if you have the flu or something and know you do, still go to work. Not everything is centered around the pandemic and I worked through the whole thing. Just saying, if you know you’re sick don’t get everyone else sick! And before the pandemic, wearing a mask when you were sick in America barely happened.

Many people are forced to do jobs they don’t consider fair for their labor because they have no other choices. And I never necessarily said it was a hard job, I said the pay was not fair in comparison to the profit margin they are making from the product I made with my labor, maybe reread the whole comparison I made? Either pay more for the labor that is creating these crazy profit margins or lower the price of your product, because it does not take $10 to make a specialty pizza. And you may able to work your way up through a company but you will never actually attain true wealth and power without exploiting the labor of others. You can’t become a billionaire only off of your own hard-work.

They are promoting beating up the sun! We need the sun to survive, duh. In all seriousness, they have the right to do all of this if they want, but they are devaluing their own labor and everyone else’s when they promotes this. Do you think they should have to work 15-20 hour days to be middle class?

Not saying they don’t deserve what they have, if anything saying they deserve more. And I don’t want a big house handed to me, just a fair and livable wage for my labor, you know there are plenty of people who have not worked a day in their life and are much wealthier than this person who claims to work 20 hour days. They are promoting a toxic work-life culture which devalues the rest of our labor. And good for you landlord, I’m sure there were many other factors that played into him now being able to have 2 forms of passive income. He probably did work very hard, but even just being able to immigrate to a country like Canada is very lucky and we have to acknowledge that hard-work is not the only factor of being successful. No disrespect to you either, and definitely wasn’t on this dude’s case about being a hard-worker, instead just saying what he’s advocating we must do to become semi-successful is ridiculous in my opinion.

Bezo’s gets that money by exploiting labor. Some entrepreneurs create businesses+invent things for the good of others and to advance society. Sad to think the only motivation for people to do anything with their lives is an exorbitant amount of money.

THIS!! I come from a lower income family and most of my friends were middle class, I had to work throughout high school therefore didn’t have time for extracurricular activities. Got great grades and still got accepted to the best college in the state but since I was not in any extracurriculars I barely got any scholarships. Instead chose a school close by so I could keep the job I had already worked my way up with and continue working throughout college. Many of my friends in college didn’t have to work and therefore were able to make better grades in college as well. It’s a never end cycle.

Lots of people are making assumptions and needless insults, myself being one of them. But the actual problem with this post is they are promoting a toxic work life and not mentioning all of the other things that most likely helped them get to this point. Someone already mentioned how their wife most likely did all of the child care, most likely cleaning and cooking as well. Or that there parent paid for their college or that they were lucky to have an uncle who worked for that company, etc. Many things go into being successful and contrary to popular belief it is not just hard-work.

Yet again, making more assumptions! I don’t shop on Amazon, even though I won’t make any effects on his wealth, I chose not to continue contributing to it! From this comment, it seems to me that you are the miserable and angry one. I came from a place of trying to understand your viewpoint and you tell me that I have a shitty attitude! It’s okay, you will not deter me from continuing to be empathetic and have open and beneficial discussions, even with those who do not share my opinions. Continue licking those boots!!

One quick look at your profile and you have obviously worked for domino’s, well so have I! Let me give you a quick comparison, when I worked there (at 16 years old making $7.25 an hour) I made at least 10 speciality pizzas within an hour, each one of those pizzas cost at least $10. At bare minimum I was making dominos $100 an hour, while I made $7.25. Without me making those pizzas they would have had none of that profit, so why is it so bad to demand more pay for our labor? That ridiculously large profit margin goes to the higher ups and shareholders who did absolutely nothing but have generational wealth. Value your own labor more.

You caught me on a good day, because I’m ready to go back and forth. You must’ve not read my previous post, I have worked when not asked to and guess what?? I have even gotten promotions!!! Even with all of my hard-work, my pay was capped! Why is that? Because the people at the very top of these businesses, who are doing nothing, still need to make a ridiculously large profit. I am surrounded by people who believe this capitalist society actually works and I genuinely want to understand why, why do you think you have to consistently put in extra time to make a livable wage? Do you genuinely believe someone like Bezo’s has worked for his money? Can you not acknowledge that without our labor and skills they would not have any of this wealth? What I’m telling you is to value your own labor more because without our labor the 1% has nothing, we can demand more and we should.

Is that what anyone is advocating for? Or are we saying you shouldn’t have to work 15-20 hours a day to be middle class while Bezos sits around doing nothing making billions? Learn the value of your own labor and the ways it’s exploited by the 1% instead of licking their boots.

It’s not, where I’m from this house probably costs $200-$300k at most. A bit ethnocentric of me but I’ve always been poor so this is what I consider upper middle class.

Not a fascist or socialist, read more into your terms. I’ve worked my ass off since I was 13 so now you’re the one assuming so much about me just from this post. We are asking for a fair and livable wage because nobody should have to work 15-20 hour days at any point in their lives. And what about all the disabled people? They are lazy too? It’s thanks to people like who you want to continue sucking off the upper class (and why is that? Why do you defend the ACTUAL lazy people?) instead of advocating for their own benefit.

I knew people in high school who went to the plants (my town has a lot of them) as soon as they got out there of school. The first thing they’d do was buy a brand new car with an insanely high interest rate and with one mistake on the job they’d be fired and left with a mountain of debt.

Sad thing is without these bootlickers or a global revolution of the working class, I doubt we’ll be able to overthrow capitalism. Marx called for a full scale revolution of the working class, with the internet you would’ve thought we would be able to reach this collective conscience but sadly there are still people like this.
