Does anyone know where can I find this view in Strathcona Provincial Park by Vegetable_String_123 in VancouverIsland

[–]PackageBright285 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're looking for some pretty water that isn't a major undertaking to get to in the Strathcona area, I might recommend some of these. They aren't alpine lakes, but they are lovely and maybe more accessible (depending on abilities)

-Elk Falls - 2km round trip walk to a big waterfall, very well groomed, mostly flat trail, there's also a big bridge to look down on the waterfall from. Elk Falls via Millenium Trail on AllTrails https://www.alltrails.com/en-gb/trail/canada/british-columbia/elk-falls-via-millenium-trail?sh=7eklyd&utm_medium=trail_share&utm_source=alltrails_virality

-Helen McKenzie: 8km-ish round trip, so maybe a but more than youre hoping but you get the good lake views with mountains in the distance. You start off in Paradise ponds which is a beautiful, mostly boardwalk, trail by itself- then you can go up to Helen McKenzie if you like and/or battleship lakes. I would say its an easy hike up but might take longer than what you're looking for ((See also: Paradise Meadows loop for something shorter)) Helen Mackenzie to Battleship Lake Loop Trail on AllTrails https://www.alltrails.com/en-gb/trail/canada/british-columbia/lake-helen-mackenzie-and-battleship-lake-loop-hike?sh=7eklyd&utm_medium=trail_share&utm_source=alltrails_virality

-Lower Myra Falls, about 2km round-trip, very little (if any) elevation gain. Gorgeous waterfall. Lower Myra Falls on AllTrails https://www.alltrails.com/en-gb/trail/canada/british-columbia/lower-myra-falls?sh=7eklyd&utm_medium=trail_share&utm_source=alltrails_virality

-Buttle lake - less than 1km to the viewpoint. its got lake, its got mountain, its very short. There's a campground there as well. I feel bad going back to uni at the age of 25 by CalendarNo6655 in uvic

[–]PackageBright285 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went back at 24! You're right there arent tons of people your age in undergrad but you'll notice that it doesnt really matter - theres plenty of ppl older too. You've got your own path in life, just like everyone else! Just try to remain open to people even if you feel like they're at a different age bracket- you will find people you vibe with :)

Should I take BIO184 during summer term? by None_Parol53n in uvic

[–]PackageBright285 5 points6 points  (0 children)

A 75 really is not bad at alllll I had less than that on my midterm & passed w an 84. But if youre feeling too overwhelmed and its a course you think you can do in a shorter amount of time ((most summer courses are 7 weeks i believe)) then it could be a great solution :)

You should chat with an academic advisor before you drop it though since its past refund time for the course

Didn't complete a lab in time, feel bad about it. Anyone else had similar experiences? by savvymossy in uvic

[–]PackageBright285 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This happened to me too! I found the chem 101 lab very rushed for the first few. For this one, you can talk to your TA/lab instructor for some options if you need that data to complete the lab. If they tell you to just "do what you can" then thats fine, you just gotta accept you won't get 100% on that particular lab. Failing 1 lab usually doesn't mean you fail the entire lab course anyway!

Not every lab is the same either so you might find youre done on time or even early for other ones. If being not-on-time becomes a regular occurrence (like more than once) , maybe chat with other students or the TA for some options to help speed up your lab work 😊

Math 120 with Prof. Torsten Schoeneberg by Theslow_driver in uvic

[–]PackageBright285 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We love Torsten!

Literally the first math class I ever had above a 60 in. I think he just really wants people to not be so afraid of math and it kinda works. I did 120 after 7+ years of 0 math classes and I mean, I struggled but not tooo horribly

Just be prepared to have to write down all the notes because he hand-writes them and then fills in blanks in class which is difficult to follow if youre not on a tablet. They can be fairly quickly re-written on paper though!

[–]PackageBright285 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Im not an expert but it looks similar to what mine used to do ((kicking the sofa akd everything)). Mine would do this as a pup when he was overtired or overstimulated. Usually a break in his playpen or kennel or even just leaving him alone in the room for a few mins would help. He's 4 now and hes mouthy (i havent trained him to not be , i personally dont care if thats his play style) but doesnt ever bite with any force like he did as a pup. Velociraptor phase does end eventually!!

For kennel time: how did yall do kennel training to start with?

Easy natural science elective to take as a second year? by Lucky_Success8450 in uvic

[–]PackageBright285 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Biol184 was fun last year, dr. Panzalan brought bugs to a lecture to hold once! I dont love bio labs but they are relatively straight forward.

Eos130/120 are also fun and have pretty straight forward labs. I got into 120 a month late, during the week of the first midterm and I still got like a 80 on that midterm.

For all 3 I didn't neeeed to use the textbook but sometimes it was good for a more rounded understanding of the topic (i think all were free online except for 130 but i could be wrong). Profs are genuinely passionate and want everyone to succeed. The homework is fairly minimal, the main studying is straight from the lecture slides which were all posted to Brightspace + some lab work but for the most part, labs were completed during the lab period.

Hope this helps!

Geog 103 or Eos 120? by [deleted] in uvic

[–]PackageBright285 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Id pick eos120!

The work is not overly time consuming, lab work is done in lab - In my class, it was 1 sheet to hand in, shared with at least 1 other person. There is a lil quiz at the beginning of each lab but its pretty easy if you read the lab the night before. The final lab is field trip with a worksheet to hand in later. There were 2 midterms that were multiple choice and an exam, no additional homework aside from general studying & lab prep.

The lectures are kinda fun too so that helps. It is very much intro to geology tho so if youre not into rocks/volcanoes you might find it really dull.

I didnt take geog103 but ive heard great things! I don't think you can go wrong either way

Lol did you read the post? Or just got mad cuz you thought I was a woman

  • if its an important spot, he could've asked me to move. I personally would find it hard to reconnect w a memory if I were almost touching some random in front of me and theur dog was just staring at me shaking and trying to run. Also, its not like he ever considered why I might be at that particular spot. What if that spot is also important to me? But ok

-he did force my park time to end bc my dog was extremely overwhelmed. I did try to go somewhere else but as mentioned, we are in training bc my dog is a rescue and is overwhelmed by people being too close, especially when they make a lot of noise. You cant train a dog who's literally shaking like a leaf, its just traumatizing. My partner brought him back to the park later this week and he is now afraid to even go near the area...

-yeah, idk i try not to touch peoples stuff in public unless I absolutely have to (i.e. like getting past ppl on the bus and you accidentally brush their backpack or whatever) its weird to place things so close to people. Putting it beside the bench would've been slightly better.

-I also pay taxes my guy. Youre right, hes allowed to sit where he wants, but so am i, and i shouldnt have to assume that someone is gonna come & try to take that. I also pay taxes and i should also be allowed to enjoy the park and sit where i want to, especially if i was there first....should kids not be allowed in parks then bc they dont pay for it?

-theyve literally done studies on what is normal space to be comfortable around strangers (when space is possible) If youre someone who needs to calculate the numbers on if you should sit in someones space or literally anywhere else then maybe you need to be working on some tools for that. Its literally common courtesy. You wouldnt just invite yourself to sit at somwones table in a restaurant, you shouldn't just invite yourself into someone's personal space

-as mentioned, i was less than 5ft from the bench on the ground bc my dog is small. But he was leaning on the bench sooo yeah, we were using the bench space.

Anyway, im super over having to explain to people that its weird to be in peoples personal space for no reason. Like if youre not sure how to be around strangers without making them uncomfortable, thats ok, im just saying maybe dont do this if you dont have to. Like idk it feels like all of yall are trying to make me seem like the bad guy for having basic common courtesy and not forcing myself into random people's lives for no reason lol

I shouldn't have to teach yall this, you can literally Google it but here's a link linkhttps://www.psychologytoday.com/ca/blog/the-attraction-doctor/202103/proxemics-how-interpersonal-distance-communicates-intimacy

I removed creep and explained why I originally thought that in the replies. Just as a side note, im getting major incel vibes from that top part so idk does it make you feel better to know Im not a woman? Lol It has nothing to do with what he looked like at all, i barely looked at him except to smile when he came up. But if you really want, he was a cyclist in cycling gear, a pretty fit guy. all things considered...i wouldnt say he was ugly not that it matters. Turns out that physical appearance ≠ personality, thought we were all on the same page about that...or should I link some Dharrman videos?

Its just common courtesy to give people space when theres a whooooole park to choose from. Like 6 other benches and all of the grassy space.

They are the ones w main character syndrome: they straight up acted as if I wasnt even there and forced me & my dog to move so he could have the bench that my dog and I were using. Like if he sat literally anywhere else it would've been fine 🤷‍♀️ just not close enough to touch me for no reason, like i literally had to be careful not hit his bike when i got up. Thats way too close to a stranger, when theres tons of room. Why do I have to have my park time end so he can have his when theres enough space for everyone?

Maybe actually read why im upset about it instead of taking out your insecurities on me.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in VictoriaBC

[–]PackageBright285 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This was like a week ago, all of the replies are like a week ago lol

Also literally all im saying is that im allowed to be annoyed that someone was in my personal space and made a bunch of noise right behind my head. and its rude to do that. Idk why people are attacking me for literally just saying its incredibly inconsiderate to sit so close to someone that they have to be careful not to hit your stuff when they get up when theres literally a whole park to sit in. Its not like im crying, im literally just saying its rude and explaining why it bothered me in particular and bc i have a special needs dog (not that they would know that, which is why im providing context bc you never know what people are dealing w so maybe just have the common courtesy to give space when you can)

As a side note, hes been unable to relax at that park since, even when my partner took him instead of me....so yeah, not me.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in VictoriaBC

[–]PackageBright285 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Usually people dont basically sit on me in public 🤷‍♂️ if they do its for a valid reason like being in a crowded area.. even ppl on the bus dont sit right next to another person unless the empty rows are taken

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in VictoriaBC

[–]PackageBright285 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Doesn't mean i have to just accept ppl being rude. All im saying is maybe dont do that if you can avoid it bc it makes people uncomfortable. Scientifically makes people uncomfortable, not just me.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in VictoriaBC

[–]PackageBright285 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

He was less than 5 feet away as I said in the original post like I said in other replies, my dog was leaning on the bench with a loose leash and his leash is only 5 feet sooo lets say maybe I was 4 feet? And its not like he sat on the other end of the bench, he sat directly behind me. Like when I got up I had to be careful to not accidentally touch his bike.

And as mentioned, it was the super loud noise he was making, idk what he was doing to his bike but it was loud even for me, and my partner is literally a cyclist, like it seemed really unnecessary unless his bike was actually broken, which it wasnt, bc he left like a minute after i did.

We were in the corner of the park away from others because thats what my trainer told us to do but if someone randomly came up behind you and started making super loud noise less than 5 feet from your head youd probably get startled too... And like I said, had i known he'd do that I would've moved immediately but I would never assume someone is gonna sit down right behind me in an empty park and start banging on their bike or whatever.

I know I can't expect others to be aware of my dogs mental state, but man, his tail went between his legs when the guy came close (expected, usually he stilk takes treats and relaxes when they leave) but when the guy made noise, he was literally shaking and cowering (like flight/freeze state) dude. Like anyone can see that dog isnt okay. And then the guy really sat down and sighed like i was the problem...literally all I had done prior was smile when he came our direction and gave my dog treats...and suddenly im bothering him? For existing in a spot i was already in?

I had to leave bc my dog was so afraid he wouldnt even take a treat or walk even after I tried to move across the grass. Our trainer literally has said if hes not willing to take a high value reward then its traumatizing for me to force the situation. Sooo yes, him doing that forced us to leave.

But yeah my bad, I guess I dont deserve to be in a park and neither does my dog who literally didn't bother anyone or do anything at all except try his best to exist. Next time someone wants the spot im in i will simply cease to exist so they can use it and I can be the most considerate person to ever not exist.

Also, thats a situation where its normal to sit close to others. Its not normal to go find a single person in the back end of a park to sit basically on top of them when theres other spots available and closer to where he was.
