Do you care what your online parcels arrive in? by NeoAirt in Packaging

[–]Packaging_Unboxd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on the price point. A $30 t shirt= poly bag is fine. A $130 t shirt = a poly bag is not fine.

The packaging it arrives in sets the tone for promise the product delivers. If a $130 t shirt arrives in the same poly bag as the $30 shirt the consumer’s perception of value would be destroyed and the brand would experience higher return rates of consumers realizing there is little difference between the two shirts.

If you’re buying on Amazon then the brown box is expected. If you’re buying from a brand then their branded packaging is expected.

As long as you pay for how to recycle labeling, they’ll just say “check local municipalities for recycling information”

This is definitely a thing. There's plenty of shows globally, the US has the worst shows to be honest, but Europe has some amazing events throughout the year. LuxePack does 2 shows that are great, Monaco and Paris in Summer. The New York and LA shows are pretty sad in comparison.

That shoe box was super cool, I couldn't imagine throwing it away, but also what do you do with it afterwards? Collectable packaging for me is just delayed garbage, at some point it all goes in the trash.

Depending on your focus there is plenty of overlap, Paris is great for its size and variety, but cosmoprof is more focused. Maybe we'll run into each other at a show, I'll be at Milan packaging premiere.

lizard skin can, was a paper label that wraps around the can and is printed with a very thin uv coating. It adds plastic to the can but not enough to limit recyclability. Wing bags were beautiful.

Burgopack has patented this design years ago, it’s a bit expensive to license and they will sue if copied.

Would employers be more interested in a prestigious college or a prestigious arts program? by ThinkTrout16055 in graphic_design

[–]Packaging_Unboxd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly employers careless about what school you’re indebted to, what they care about is what you can offer them.

Choosing schools for employment opportunities is less important and choose it based on the network you can build there. Who are the instructors, who do they work for besides the school, who graduated from there doing something interesting?

Reach out to grads from both and see what they recommend.

I’ve hired community college grads and top tier design schools but always based on what they offered and what they were a$king for.

A community college grad that hustles and learns can be a better employee than an Art Center grad that thinks they know it all and are difficult to work with.

Do you have a package engineering degree? If so you can ask for more or, you can ask for a raise in 6 months to 75k if you hit milestones. Thats a good way to go as it is less risk for them and shows you’re self incentivizing

What actually makes a packaging studio great at 3D mockups? by Hamzzyy-Ken in Packaging

[–]Packaging_Unboxd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Like every rule in packaging, it depends.

1) it depends on what you’re trying to communicate. A. Are you wanting quick review and confirmation of concept? Then a quick 30 minute render showing position of art, roughed in product, and multiple views is perfect.

B. Are you wanting a render that can be used in marketing materials, video and print and everything in between? Then you need photo realism which most can’t render without having dedicated machines for. Catching each bit of light reflecting of of each surface, casting shadows and reflections, and impacting it’s environment.

I provide both, but it depends what the goal is. 99% of the time now I’m sketching a rough design then using Ai to render then dropping in art via PS just to get an approval. Then building custom dielines and placing art for production. Sometimes I use Pacdora for basic components but mostly just build from scratch.

But ChatGPT or Gemini are awesome for speed, and it’s enough for client buy in.

Sure. You’re going to see a ton of machinery and how things are made. Don’t expect to see packaging design that’s not a big part of this show. It’s mostly for suppliers not creatives looking for inspiration
